I actually found a definition of Popcorn Flicks on the Internet. “Mindless fun that has one special thing like special effects, action, etc. Nothing else.” I do NOT agree with that definition. For me, a popcorn flick is a movie where I am, for two to three hours, thoroughly entertained. I just plain have fun in these movies. In my definition there is a combination of drama and comedy. At times I’m laughing out loud and at times I’m very tense. I don’t have to think too deeply, but I’m always engaged in the movie.
Some of my personal favorites are: Die Hard (the first one), Speed, Jaws, True Lies, Superman, Jaws, Pirates of the Caribbean( the first one where less is more), and The Avengers
.
My all-time favorite is JURASSIC PARK. Seeing that the first time was a glorious experience.
And as I peruse my above list, I see that popcorn flicks have had some amazing music scores composed for them.
So what are some of your favorite popcorn flicks? (Let’s hope we get more in the future.)

I tend not to watch many 'robot, monster, superhero' films as I generally don't like them, so that rules out many a possible 'popcorn' favourite for me. I recently watched 'Pacific Rim' on Sky Movies with my daughter and along with 'Cloverfield' is one of the worst films I ever saw. I can't stand 'Star Wars' or 'Star Trek' either.
However, there are some I do enjoy. Like E.T, the Back To The Future Films, Indiana Jones, and the first 'LOTR' film. Couldn't stand the other two. The only superhero films I've found decent are 'Superman (1978)' and Burton's 'Batman'. I also like a lot of Burton's other films, 'Sleepy Hollow', 'Edward Scissorhands', 'Ed Wood', 'Big Fish' if you want to to call them 'popcorn'.

'Air-Popped', 'Buttery-Light' or 'Movie Theater Style Butter'? There are probably people on this board who actually have titles for each type of Popcorn, Joan.

You are probably right, Montana Dave.  I just want my popcorn with lots of butter and lightly salted.
I'm adding Back To The Future as one of my favorite popcorn flicks, and I'm hoping more entertaining films will pop up in the future.
I have NEVER seen this film nor heard the out-of-print score cd. Good movie Joan?

For me, EVERY movie is a "popcorn movie," because I ALWAYS buy popcorn before entering the theatre. They are inseparable for me. Traditional in my family…old habits are hard to break. However, I realize that certain subject matter would NEVER qualify for the definition of a "popcorn" movie. For example, the film "HOPE SPRINGS" was sold to the public as a comedy. I always love a good comedy, and so my girlfriend & I saw it together. I think we BOTH stopped munching on the popcorn about ten minutes into the film, when we realized that this was NO comedy. As the final credits rolled, she said, "That has to be the saddest film I've ever seen." Then she looked at me and saw my tear-drenched face. All of our popcorn went into the trash.
