What is your favorite 3D film of all time?

I haven't seen GRAVITY, or a number of other 3D films. But the BEST one for me is actually a tie: AVATAR and HUGO. The 3D on both of these films knocked my socks off!
I also saw MEN IN BLACK III, and the newest GODZILLA, and while I liked both of these films, I felt that the 3D wasn't worth the extra $3.

I have not seen all the films made in 3d, there has been over a hundred of them, but what I have seen the best from the old group would be HOUSE OF WAX, CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON, THE NEW GROUP GODZILLA, AVATAR, have not caught GRAVITY, but I have seen over the years most 3d efforts, and the worst was PARASITE-82.The early to mid 80's 3d revival I felt gave us the worst of the bunch. Most of the 50's efforts were pretty good. The new ones due to modern technology are all by themselves.

AVATAR...no question.
Apart from GRAVITY last year, everything else has been a waste of money.
They're the only two I saw a continued difference with.
It (3D) has actually ruined some films for me at times.

If we're speaking strictly from a 3D perspective, most of the original 1950s 3D films like the 2 CREATURE films, KISS ME KATE, MAN IN THE DARK, THE MAD MAGICIAN and others, are the best. Nothing today, really compares to the great depth and clarity of those films. HOUSE OF WAX remains the best 3D film I ever saw (and retains that honor on Blu-ray). With films, today, I find that filmmakers are far too restrained with the format. We almost never get, in your face moments, and while I love the format first and foremost for the depth it provides, when called for, an in your face moment would be great. For example, the animated film, FROZEN, begins with a view of working men, from below the surface of the ice, then a saw comes through the ice. Well, those of us watching in 3D should have all jumped back (the moment is screaming for it), but they decided to do the take from just off center, so the in your face moment was completely missed. POMPEII is another perfect example of an otherwise beautiful-looking 3D film, that is screaming for pop outs, and there really are none. Films from today that have wonderful depth, clarity and a few of those moments, include JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH, JOURNEY 2: THE MYSTERIOUS ISLAND, STEP UP 3, MY BLOODY VALENTINE, YOGI BEAR and others. Films, today, that fully incorporate the format into how they tell the story, include HUGO, THE LIFE OF PI, OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL and GRAVITY (a film that I can't imagine even liking without the depth). There have been a few really well-done converted films, like WORLD WAR Z, PACIFIC RIM, JOHN CARTER TITANIC (far more enjoyable in 3D), and JURASSIC PARK (a film I couldn't stand, at all, until I saw it in 3D), among others. 3D almost always adds something to a film, in my opinion, which is why I love the format so much. There are a few where this is not the case. THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN (2012) is a prime example of pretty lousy 3D, just so they could charge the extra bucks. GODZILLA is another example of completely lackluster 3D which adds nothing to the film, and may even detract from it, also CLASH OF THE TITANS, MAN OF STEEL and others. I agree that JAWS 3D is the worst major 3D film I ever saw. Of the 80s batch, FRIDAY THE 13TH, PART 3 is the best. The worst 3D film I ever saw (for the format), is ROBOT MONSTERb but HOUSE OF WAX is the definitive 3D film, and the one by which I judge all others.

Well, HOUSE OF WAX, CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON, TEXAS CHAINSAW 3D, MY BLOODY VALENTINE and THE FINAL DESTINATION are all horror films, and superb examples of 3D on Blu-ray.

Who remembers APE-76- The film that came out a week or so before KING KONG in 76.It was in 3d and was pretty bad.

A*P*E, as I recall the posters, is horrendous, but so is the '76 KING KONG. One's just lousy with a lot of gloss. Both apes are, ultimately, a man in a money suit. As I remember it, the 3D is pretty dismal, and nothing made any sense, whatsoever. The scale of the thing keeps changing (he even wrestles what appears to be a dead baby shark); and, rather than really being fun and funny, because it's so bad (which it is), it attempts to be funny in parts (which it isn't). However, I'll take whoever the girl in APE is over Jessica Lange in KING KONG. I recall her being lovely and fun, while Lange is just dreary and annoying. Yeah, APE is just plain bad; but now that it's been mentioned, I want to see it, again!

I agree with you on that, APE was mostly a cheesy film.

TREASURE OF THE FOUR CROWNS-83- was another 3d effort that was passable. Except of course for ENNIO MORRICONE'S fine score.
