Deep Purple-"Space Truckin'"
Thomas Dolby-"NEO"
Harry Nilsson-"Spaceman"
Pretty much all of Mike Oldfield-"The Songs Of Distant Earth"
Most of Klaatu-"Hope"
Klaatu-"Hanus Of Uranus"
From Multiplication Rock, "Hey Little Twelve-Toes"
Intergalactic Touring Band-S/T LP
Prism-"Spaceship Superstar"
Police-"Walking On The Moon"
Rush-"Countdown"

That's it off the top of my head so far.

Yup, you are right, those effects are excellent.
But that movie was really trashed.

Thxs for contributing. I never heard most of the songs suggested. I'll try and check them out.

I also agree the LIS movie effects are pretty spectacular and eye catching. Something is really missing from today's scifi blockbusters.

what was that chart-topping mid-late 70s single by Space?

By the way was there ever a single called "I am a Hal 9000. What are you doing, Dave?"

and what about this one?

It's on Amerika's tortured brow
That Mickey Mouse
has grown up a cow
Now the workers
have struck for fame
'Cause Lennon's on sale again
See the mice in their million hordes
From Ibiza to the Norfolk Broads
Rule Britannia is out of bounds
To my mother, my dog, and clowns
But the film is a saddening bore
'Cause I wrote it
ten times or more
It's about to be writ again
As I ask you to focus on

"[CHORUS]"

Probably in title only:

The Beatles's "Across the Universe".

Also, Paul McCartney's "Venus and Mars".

Surprised nobody posted this one yet.

Donovan. As a kid I used to hear it occasionally played in rotation (heavily edited of course which sucked) on the AM radio stations in New York. Never heard it unedited until now.
