After plowing through loads of titles that have had their day in the sun on VHS, laserdisc, and DVD, we finally get to a few titles that have never been on DVD--"Drum" and "The Wicked Lady"--and one that has never been released on any format--"Cult of the Damned aka Angel, Angel, Down We Go."

So many good films I want to buy on that list. I've bought several already. The 1970s titles especially.

THE EMERALD FOREST was directed by John Boorman and photographed by Philippe Rousselot in the rain forest. It was released in 1985, and I consider it the best film of the decade. A metaphysical adventure like nothing I'd ever seen before. A truly exceptional work. Its release in hi-def has been long overdue.

Keeping up with the Kino announcements, but really disappointed to find so many of my MGM DVDs are non-anamorphic. I have way too many on the list below. I'm really hoping Kino will slow down and make an attempt to get better prints from MGM. I was very disappointed in their release of Duel At Diablo. Pretty much the only improvement is that is is that it's anamorphic.

Any anamorphic DVD I have, I'm hanging on to till I read the reviews.

(From the HTF) "MGM/UA titles non-anamorphic Anna Lucasta, Baby Boom, Beach Red, Betrayed (1988), Bikini Beach, Birdman Of Alcatraz, The Bride Wore Black, Bridge At Remagen, Burn, Cage Aux Folles II, Chato's Land, Crime Of Passion, Crossplot, Dead Of Winter, Defiant Ones, Devil's Brigade, Elmer Gantry, Eye Of The Needle, F/X, Fatal Beauty, Frankie And Johnny (1966), Fuzz, Great Train Robbery (1979), Hallelujah Trail, Hell In The Pacific, Hound Of The Baskervilles (1959), How To Murder Your Wife, How To Stuff A Wild Bikini, How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying, I Want To Live, I'll Take Sweden, Inherit The Wind, Invitation To A Gunfighter, Jack The Giant Killer, Judgment At Nuremburg, King Of Hearts, The Knack, Lilies Of The Field, Look Back In Anger, Man Who Loved Women (1977), Marat/Sade, Miracle Worker, Mississippi Mermaid, Never On Sunday, Night Of The Shooting Stars, The Organization, Passion Of Anna, Pocketful Of Miracles, Pork Chop Hill, Pressure Point, Pride And The Passion, Quiet American (1958), Road To Hong Kong, Run Silent Run Deep, Smile, Story Of Adele H, Support Your Local Gunfighter, Time Limit, Tom Jones, Topkapi, Valdez Is Coming, Who'll Stop The Rain, Wild Child, Women In Love, X-15 and Yellow Submarine"

All these United Artists titles & still no > The Vikings < yet! I'm hoping that's coming from Twilight Time, as it'll be a multi-region release. Riotengine, I see Valdez Is Coming is on your list. Germany are selling the Blu-ray for 8.97 euro, it's had good reports & it's multi-region, I ordered it last night.

You do understand what a non-anamorphic film looks like on an HD TV, right? Particularly scope films? wink

Yes. But, if you use a projector onto a screen that problem disappears.

I don't think it does. How many lines are used for the 'scope picture in a non-anamorphic 525 DVD? I'd guess at something around 270. I admit that I don't have a projector, but I'd think it would look a bit fuzzy.

Why would I want to buy a projector to solve a problem that can be (or should have been) fixed in the software. wink

I have limited funds. I'd rather get another all-region player.

Think of all the money you will save buy NOT having to buy the reissues of anamorphic and/or Bluray editions!
I think you will come out in the "black' in the end
smile
bruce

ps you could also save a TON of money buy NOT buying every expanded soundtrack that gets released{except, of course the one I want you to buy)

Independent U.S. distributors Kino Lorber announced today that due to contractual issues their upcoming Blu-ray release of Mario Bava's Black Sabbath/Black Sunday (U.S. Release Versions) has been canceled.

In the U.S., Black Sabbath/Black Sunday was scheduled to be released on Blu-ray on October 7th.

Currently, the Canadian listing for Black Sabbath/Black Sunday is still active.

When Mario Bava's groundbreaking films BLACK SUNDAY and BLACK SABBATH were introduced to the U.S. market, American International Pictures retooled the films for the release. In addition to being redubbed in English (allowing viewers to hear the actual voice of Boris Karloff, rather than an Italian voice actor), the films were given new musical scores (by Ultra-lounge legend Les Baxter) and re-edited (with additional footage shot by Bava himself). Bava's personal favorite of his films, BLACK SABBATH is a trilogy of terror, best remembered for the segment in which Karloff plays a vampire hunter whose family is stalked by an undead spirit. BLACK SUNDAY stars Barbara Steele as a woman executed for witchcraft, who returns to carry out vengeance upon the family of her tormentors.

Rats. I was looking forward to this release. Perhaps MGM/UA no longer has U.S. release rights to these AIP versions.
