Hi Gang,

Thought I'd plug what I've done now that I am ending the FSM label. "Lucky Bastard" is a "found footage" thriller set in the porn world. Yes, that's right, porn—

WARNING! MATURE CONTENT!

Lucky Bastard is a "found footage" thriller about a porn website run by Mike (Don McManus) that invites fans to have sex with porn stars. Jay Paulson plays Dave, an eager young fan given a chance to have sex with the fabulous Ashley Saint (Betsy Rue). But everyone gets more than they bargained for in the seemingly mild-mannered Dave... with gruesome results. The film is captured by the "Lucky Bastard" porn cameras for a fresh take on the "found footage" genre.

(I appreciate that this won't be everyone's cup of tea. One of the nice things about movie music is that it brings together people of many different backgrounds and tastes, and here I am making a movie that's not for everyone. Nonetheless, this is a movie we're very proud of and as sleazy as it may look—it's really not.)

Here's a rudimentary web page: http://www.luckybastardmovie.com

Facebook page with some pics and info: http://www.facebook.com/luckybastardmovie

IMDB page: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2417854/

First clip, with a new definition, perhaps, of "adult content": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P2izbCWQ4yo (warning: bad language)

Incidentally, our producer is none other than FSM friend Jim Wynorski, master of moviemaking on a low budget. My co-writer, co-executive producer and director is Robert Nathan, a very esteemed TV writer-producer (Law & Order, ER).

And yes, that's La-La Land's office in the clip. MV Gerhard and Matt Verboys very kindly let us shoot there.

Curious to hear what people think, and want to know next...

Congrats on your endeavor Lukas. If you've undertook this project with the same fervor as you did your producing the career, you'll be on your way to bigger things very soon.

Bonne chance!

P.S. Temp-tracked or original? wink

It's an intriguing concept (the 'found footage' concept outside a horror tale--even more so with porn). I thought the footage presented so far is interesting, but as it is currently disjointed from the rest of the film, I'm not yet impressed. Looks amateur, its style too broad-shouldered for its substance, if that makes sense. In other words, it feels far too aware of itself, and that leads to a rough transition between character and narration. I know it's your first step, Lukas, and I haven't seen the entirety of the production, but as it stands, I don't find it very interesting--too fan-boyish in some ways to be taken seriously. That's my honest take. Hope it helps.

There is, outside of a short piece of source music (reprised in the end credits), no music.

Well, no one pops in a Taylor Vixen or Jayden Jaymes video and thinks "Wow, this music sounds pretty good..."

Anyone find it interesting that two of our greatest soundtrack CD producers have had movie careers in which they . . . "worked blue"?

I wish you at LEAST as much success with this project as my other CD-producin'/filmmakin' hero, Bruce Kimmel experienced with his immortal "The First Nudie Musical."

Love the concept, actually!

However, I'd love to see the whole thing to form a proper opinion on the actual aesthetic execution. The clip you linked too looked funny.

The porn industry may be moving out of southern Cal. since a new "Condom Law" was passed. Good luck!

Well I thought the clip was pretty funny. Especially the actress acting like a porn star who cant act. (Which is good acting) Not to mention the hilarious over the top banter they spout which is never erotic or titillating. Granted the dialog is a joke within itself.

My sleepy eyes read "Condorman Law" the first time I read that.

I am happy that you can find other pursuits in life to keep yourself gainfully employed Lukas, but in all candor, there is not one reason why I would ever find myself wanting to see a movie about a subject like this in a million years.

Well, I'm sure there's a market for this.

Though I hesitate to wonder into what niche this will place you in other producers' views, when it comes time to financing future projects.

I wish you well.

Dear Lukas

Best of luck with this project. The above line didn't escape me and you've earned IN SPADES the right to do whatever you need to do to pay the mortgage or to keep yourself engaged. I hope it goes on to make you a pile of money and that you go from strength to strength in whatever you choose.

All the very best

Chris
