The only acceptable reply to this thread is "Harrison Ford." LOL! In my case, though, that would be true. Harrison Ford has always been my favorite. Even when a film has been mediocre (Random Hearts, for example), I've enjoyed watching him. And I think part of the reason is that, despite becoming one of the biggest movie stars in the world, there was never anything pretentious or uppity about him. He was a huge star, but always felt like he could have been, say, your dad or an uncle or the guy next door. A real Everyman quality, which I think is missing from a lot of newer stars these days. And that just appeals to me. Kurt Russell and Kevin Costner would round out my Top 3, for much of the same reasons.

Do people think that generally, favourite actors/actresses changes massively during our own lifetimes? Composer favourites maybe less so, but actors and actresses I liked as a youth, in many cases I cannot stand now and cant see why I so idolised them. For instance in the 60s, in my eyes, after the Dollars films and Where Eagles Dare, Eastwood could do no wrong. However, one disappointing crud film after another throughout the 70s and 80s and 90s has put him in the category - as far as Im concerned - as wasted massive potential. He was what he was, but he threw it away spending 30 years using his clout with the studio to show he could be something different - he seemed to put in a nominal amount of energy churning out cheap-rate blockbusters because he was so popular he could bring out any crap, and then put all of his energy producing and directing forgettable but slightly more arty garbage to change his image. Yet I imagine a world where Eastwood did another three decent Italian westerns with Leone and Morricone and a follow-up to Josey Wales (there was a book, btw). And a few more better-scripted Dirty Harry films in the 70s than the total bollox that we did evetually get - you know, it shouldve been more gritty Magnum Force than the bomb in a silly remote controlled toy car in Dead Pool!! All I'm saying is for years he was my favourite actor for his work in Italy but I cant seriously put hand on heart and say hes my favourite actor now. It almost insults the Joe Pesci's and the George C Scott's of this world if I did. As time has gone on, like Storyteller, I have much more appreciation for people like Ernest Borgnine. And Eli Wallach, who, I realised often stole films with quite comparatively minor roles. There are always the usual suspects like Pacino and De Niro, Caine, and serious big guns like Laurence Olivier, but its so hard to nail down just one. And it seems pointless listing 20 men and 20 women whose work has entertained me most over the years. sorry its long but Im struggling to name a favourite.
