When in the course of personal events going hither and yon yonning one's life's hither, there are those occasions when - neither by luminous design nor even lack of desire - circumstances of time/opportunity and availability prevent you from absorbing what's universally lauded as among a particular art form's most cherished accomplishments.

Now while this ain't necessarily so where Theatre is concerned, tis precisely the embarrassing case where movies matter - and we hang our unequalized head in abject sorrow to publically admit we've yet (amongst many others both Amurrican, European and global) to see these splendid efforts (tho we hope to rectify that by year's end).

and the absolute ULTIMATE heresy where our own professionally-personal and
personally-professional mighty Mentor is concerned:

eek Und don't Even eek get us started on musicals!!! eek

The one that comes immediately to mind is IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE.

But there are plenty.

I love to see films in all shapes and forms -- from extreme arthouse to popcorn blockbusters, from all over the world, from all time periods -- so some classics will inevitably be put on the backburner.

It might not be huge, but judging from all the attention The Big Fisherman is getting on the other side it, it might be worth a look. I'm looking at it right now - so that's me for tonight.

G'nite, fellas.

A Classic that has pretty eyes, cute small nose, beautiful long hair, a butt that slides down like a ski slope, moderate but perky breasts, cute ears, a sexy neck, sweet sensuous voice, cute toes, nice fingers, gentle personality etc etc etc, I don't have to worry my current girlfriend does not read this board[ha-ha] oh you mean a film?

The Wizard of Oz, for one. For a long, long time, I had no idea that references to munchkins and flying monkeys had anything to do with this movie.

Three more that come to mind are on television annually, and I have seen a few minutes of them here and there, but never the entire films. They are:
The Ten Commandments
It's A Wonderful Life
The Sound of Music

Just for starters:

Fantasia (1940)
All About Eve (1950)
Lawrence of Arabia (1962)

Oh, and Caddyshack (1980) wink

There are also about 200 non-English language films which I *seriously* need to remedy.

I don't know if it is a classic but it is a cult film. I still have to get around to see THE DEVILS-71- KEN RUSSELL. It was on some cable system when I was in a motel in HARTFORD CONN, decades ago. but I was busy doing other things so I never really got to see it.

It's worth a look, but you may need to adopt an MST frame of mind to appreciate all its many charms. If it inspires you to read the source novel, you might find it better than the movie . . . I did.

* The Godfather - By choice. Never been into gangster movies.
* Lawrence of Arabia - Almost saw it one time, but got sidetracked and have yet to get around to it.

I don't believe I've seen anything by Kurusawa or Bergman, but otherwise I'm not doing too badly, to my surprise. Haven't seen The Iron Lady yet, though, Neo...

I still haven't seen any of the Godfather films, Goodfellas, Reservoir Dogs, On The Waterfront, The Matrix, Gone With The Wind, Die Hard, Raging Bull, Fight Club. Only seen a handful of films made after 1991. Nor have I seen any foreign language films at all.
