MOVIES! is a new channel lauched at the end of last month and is showing mainly Columbia, Paramount and Fox movies -
In the Chicago area it is broadcast channel 50.2 and it will premiere on cable provider Comcast Aug.1 as channel 363.
I read that like Cozi-TV (and unlike Antenna TV), MOVIES! will show widescreen films in correct aspect ratio -- upcoming films include THE AFRICAN QUEEN, STARS AND STRIPES FOREVER, MY DARLING CLEMENTINE, ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST, THE SAND PEBBLES, BARBARELLA, and HURRY SUNDOWN.
I think that it is great that we again have free channels showing old and classic films . For a about 15 yrs. there were very few local channels still showing movies but the digital conversion has brought back "free" movies .
MOVIES! finally became available the last week or so - and it is excellent - a very interesting mix of older b/w films like LIFEBOAT + MAN HUNT with technicolor classics like AFRICAN QUEEN (the beautful restoration print) and TO CATCH A THIEF - shown uncut which is rare(although adult content is either blurred out or dubbed out such as in GOODBYE COLUMBUS). Movies! is also showing in original aspect ratios unlike AntennaTV and THIS which usually shows pan + scan of widescreen. Right now they are showing the forgotten FATSO w Anne Bancroft + Dom DeLuise.
btw, when I tried to find this thread, I could not find it among my posts - curious?
What is the story behind this station? Is it broadcast TV/ only available on cable networks? what markets have it ?etc etc, Are the films shown uncut or like THIS there are commercials?

Use the link in the 1st post - it is available free nationwide -- a broadcast channel . There are commercials but no mattter the length of a movie, Movies! is not editting to fit in a time slot . There are about 20 cities carrying it - LA, Milwaukee, Phoenix, Chicago, etc. I think that is the best of the free movie channels. Cozi is a good one too - but a lot of old tv shows.
I just want to reiterate what a great channel this is - and it is free!! You dont need to pay anyone to receive it if you have an antenna(and it is in your area).
Currently showing is A MESSAGE TO GARCIA starring Barbara Stanwyck - I bet that's never played on TCM. Last night the noir classic ROAD HOUSE starring Ida Lupino was shown. Commercials are much less intrusive than on other channels .
It is really wonderful how digital tv has returned old movies back to the broadcast channels.
