Midnight Run:
I saw this for the first time recently and I enjoyed it. The best parts were De Niro and Grodin simply talking to each other and getting to know each other. The only thing that bothered me was the ending.

Isn't the money that Jack receives technically stolen and so he would be receiving stolen property? I know it's supposed to be a heart warming ending and it definitely is. But when you think about it, it doesn't hold up as well. And plus the Mob Boss could always hit back at Jonathon.

Waking Ned Devine:

Nice little picture with a clever basis for a comedy.

The whole town is committing lottery fraud and I'm sure the tax department would find out about it sooner or later.

Back to the Future 1:

I never realized the significance of the ending until I read the Cracked.com article and fully agreed with it.

At the end, Marty has a new family who has never known or shared experiences with.

Star Trek 2 TWOK: Without question Spocks torpedo tube on Genesis. How did that thing not burn up in the atmosphere? How did it soft land? The whole evolution of Kirk was diminished by that rewrite. Not to mention a bit of bate and switch on the viewer.

Continuing that same line of thought, any movie where a main character appears to have died at the end of the film, but miraculously ends up not being the case.

Interesting comments about "Back To the Future", KevinSmith.

I always wondered why the McFlys even lived in the same house; wouldn't the now-confident George McFly have been a more successful person earlier in life --- even a pubished author earlier in life --- thus, allowing them to live in a much more affluent neighborhood? I mean, surely their success and confidence would be shown in more ways than just Marty's brother wearing a suit, etc. and his parents (now) returning from playing tennis.

None of this ruined the movie for me or anything, but it's the kind of thing that's almost impossible to avoid noticing if you stop to think about it for more that a few seconds. It's still a heck of a movie, I must say.... One of my favorites.

BACK TO THE FUTURE would have been the perfect movie if it ended just as Marty starts to open the door of his house.....

THE GAME. THE mothereffing GAME.

So, Nicholas is shot at, nearly drowned, defrauded, drugged, deported and driven insane to the point where he - even if accidentally - shoots and kills his own brother. The whole thing then turns out to be an insanely elaborate ploy to get him to lighten up. He, more or less, shrugs the whole thing off. Assuming that someone would even survive such an ordeal in one piece, who wouldn't think of becoming ten times the asshole they were at the film's beginning just to spite the quote-unquote "loved ones" who engineered this?

I honestly cannot think of a more disingenuous happy ending.

There I am trying to think of a film and SBD comes along and nails it.

I felt cheated by THE GAME.

Minority Report- terrific movie, but that ending.....

Heres the joke: Spielberg didn't understand the ending of the screenplay.

After Cruise is taken at the summer home and put in prison... everything after that is his dream. Unfortunately, Spielberg played it way too straight and made the ending literal instead of a slight-of-hand.

Apparently Nick Meyer wanted the ending less upbeat with finding the tube, Harve Bennett and the Paramount brass over ruled him on that. I think that was partly to leave the door open for Nimoy to return, because as they were making TWOK he realized 1) he likes the money 2) he really enjoyed making the picture 3) the offered him a shot at directing

An extremely superficial reading of a complex film. For example, who's to say that Nicholas' game is actually really over at the end of the movie? One of the best American films of the 1990s, which gets better and better with each viewing.
