My sincere thanks to Mr. Phelps and everyone who is keeping this thread of mine alive. I've been meaning to do that myself, but ironically have been consumed with completing a publishing contract. The book should be out in another month or so, and last-minute editing, corrections and cover design revisions have kept me from this, my very favorite playground!
I'll be back in full force as soon as possible.
Thanks again, fellas!

MAL
You gonna ride shotgun, help me
fly?
V0 River is in the copilot's seat, looking intently at the
screens and buttons.

RIVER
That's the plan.

MAL
Think you can work out how to get
her in the --
She is flipping switches without even looking, as the ship
hums to life.

EXT. SERENITY - CONTINUING

Her engines fire up and tilt. She lifts gently off the
ground.

INT. BRIDGE - CONTINUING

Mal looks slightly, only slightly nonplussed.

MAL
Okay, clearly some aptitude for
the... but it ain't all buttons
and charts, .
You know what the first rule of
flying is? Well, I suppose you
do, since you already know what
I'm about to say.

RIVER
I do. But I like to hear you say
it.
He looks out at the rain on his windows, at his screens,
taking her up as he says:

MAL
Love. You can learn all the math
in the 'verse, but you take a boat
in the air you don't love, she'll
shake you off just as sure as the
turning of worlds. Love keeps her
in the air when she oughta fall
down, tells you she's hurting
'fore she keens. Makes her a home.
River also looks out at the sky.

126.

RIVER
Storm's getting worse.

MAL
We'll pass through it soon enough.

EXT. SERENITY - CONTINUING

As we shoot up with her through sheeting rain, towards the
top of the sky.

EXT. SPACE - MOMENTS LATER

We are looking down on the stormclouds as Serenity bursts out
of them, comes at us, flared by the sun behind the planet as
she passes us, her Firefly effect lighting up, about to shoot
off into the heavens --
There is a spark and a piece of paneling pops off, whips at
camera, blacking out the frame.

MAL (0. S . )
What was that?

THE END

Difficult without seeing and hearing Meryl Streep... but here it goes:

Lisle: "Now a warning..."

Madeline: "NOW a warning???"

('Death Becomes Her")

Madeline: "NOW a warning???"

Oh, Marlene...that's one of my very favorite lines of all time, and yes, it has everything to do with Meryl's fabulous delivery!

From Chinatown:

Jake: Mulvihill! What are you doing here?

Mulvihill: They shut my water off. What's it to you?

Jake: How'd you find out about it? You don't drink it; you don't take a bath in it... They wrote you a letter. But then you have to be able to read.

When I was young I thought I knew everything, now I am old and I realize I know nothing. Funny how as we get older we get wiser.

Scottie: This was as far as I could get. But you went on. Remember?
The necklace, Madeleine. That was the slip. I remembered the necklace.
Judy: Let me go!
Scottie: We're going up the tower, Madeleine.
Judy: You can't! You're afraid!
Scottie: We'll see. We'll see. This is my second chance...

The Night Of The Iguana has been one of my favorite films since my very first viewing of it, decades ago. I revisit it regularly.

Grayson Hall: Father, have you been drinking?
Richard Burton: Madam, if I'd been drinking, I would still be drinking.

Back to Joe Versus The Volcano:

Joe's visit to the doctor...

"I've gotten the results of your tests."
"I've got cancer."
"No."
"Something wrong with my blood or urine."
"No, they're fine. But there is something..."
"Tell me."
"You have a brain cloud."
"Brain cloud?"
"There's a black fog of tissue running right down the center of your brain.
It's very rare. It'll spread at a regular rate. It's very destructive."
"And it's incurable."
"Yes."
"How long?"
"Six months. You can pretty much count on it being about that. It's not
painful. Your brain will simply fail, followed abruptly by your body."

Pascal (Ian Holm) to Secondo (Stanley Tucci) in BIG NIGHT.

"What is this...too much?
It is NEVER too much!
It's only NOT ENOUGH!
BITE YOUR TEETH INTO THE ASS OF LIFE,
AND DRAG IT TO YOU!"

From one of the greatest movies ever made, Ben-Hur

Judah Ben-Hur: Almost at the moment He died, I heard Him say, "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do."

Esther: Even then.

Judah Ben-Hur: Even then. And I felt His voice take the sword out of my hand.

[Miriam and Tirzah appear at the top of the stairs; Judah goes up to them, sees that they have been miraculously healed; they embrace each other]

------------------------------------------------------------

Judah Ben-Hur: He gave me water, and the heart to live. What has he done to merit this?

Balthasar: He has taken the world of our sins onto Himself. To this end He said He was born, in that stable, where I first saw Him. For this cause, He came into the world.

Judah Ben-Hur: For this death?

Balthasar: For this beginning.

Oh how I love this film!

It's only a small thing and I think it has more to do with Gene Hackman's delivery of this line...

But In Superman - The Movie

Lex explaining his plan to kill millions of people opens with the line

"Now call me...foolish, call me irresponsible..."

Yeah - it's all in the delivery but has me laughing every time.
