The scheduled starters for this afternoon's game between the Mets and the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia are Jorge Sosa for the Mets (6-3 3.79 era) vs J.A. Happ for the Phillies (?).
They won 3 out of 4 games against the Phillies as they leave Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia after losing today to move on to Colorado to play the Rockies in a three game series beginning tomorrow night.
Mike Pelfrey was called back up from triple A to make the start for the Mets today, and truthfully I did not expect much from him.
Pelfrey after this latest failed start is 0-6 for the Mets this season .
He was not terrible in today's start, but it was just more of the same.
He got sent down to the minors earlier this year for "seasoning" after getting off to a horrendous start after making the Mets rotation out of spring training . He just got brought back up for this start today against the Phillies, and the result was predictable.
Some recent young Mets pitchers who have not had success in the past with other organizations at least show you something on the mound in starts. (Perez, Maine, and Sosa are prime examples) Pelfrey has talent, but has once again showed nothing in his return to the big club.
He's a streak stopper. I said it once before about him on this thread before he finally got sent down.
Mike Pelfrey continues to be an enigma for the NY Mets.
Congratulations to WFAN 660AM, the radio home of the New York Mets, on their 20th year on the air as the pioneer radio station for all sports talk radio in the nation.
This past weekend, WFAN did a fantastic job bringing back some of the old hosts who are no longer at the station for short stints on the air, along with some great audio clips of past interviews, and many other recorded special moments from this very successful station's past 20 years.
WFAN is THE voice for NY sports fans.
They did a great job over the weekend with all the retrospectives covering their 20 years on the air.
Saturday's game was great with a solid win by the METS!!!
We had perfect seats and the mix of fans was indeed 50/50, Anz. Some season ticket fans in our sister's section were sending over condolences that she had some METS fans' in her family! LOL All in good fun.
PS: Those Phillies may have lost the game, but you cannot beat those cheesesteaks they sell at that stadium. The best ballpark snack that I've ever had.

Was former Phillie Greg "The Bull" Luzinski there saturday afternoon sweating over the boiling hot pots of sausages and kielbasa behind the counter of his food stand at CB Park?

I heard that he was but I didn't see him myself. We were too busy scarfing down the beef, cheese whiz, and fried onions on a soft roll. You gotta take time off next year and come with us to this ballpark, Anz! Ed wants me to try to recreate this cholesterol-nightmare at home....you are invited, of course!
(I think Kingman is still more famous today for sending a dead rat in a box to a reporter than for any of those titanic home runs and swings and misses of his over the years).
Congratulations Roger Clemens, for becoming the first pitcher in 44 years to get career win #350. And for doing it with a brilliant eight inning pitching performance against the Twins, including retiring the last 15 in a row he faced.
Last I heard, Richie Hebner was a coach for the Durham Bulls, a Triple A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. He'd been coaching in the minor leagues with various franchises for years now.
Richie "now".
Richie "then".
Obviously, a lot has happened to Richie since 1979, his only year as an Met.
(The more I look back now on how shitty the Mets organization was run in the late 70's, the more I now reconsider Hebner's reasons for not wanting to be traded to the Mets back in those dark, dreary years at Shea Stadium).
Hebner obviously enjoyed digging graves as a "side job" though.
