Thor, can you give me some feedback on the quality of Once Upon A Time? I've heard it's good, but haven't seen it myself. It's frustrating. The first thing you need to know: it's on ABC which is owned by Disney, so its versions of the characters will be more immediately accessible if you know the Disney versions. That said. There's a lot to like about the show: it's from some of the creative team behind Lost, so it has a similar structure, balancing the plot in the "real" world with thematically linked or plot-related stories from the fairy tale world. Often this is handled very well. There is, however, a lot of drawn out soap opera stuff involving unnecessary love triangles and angst, and a few of the actors don't seem quite right for one or both of their characters (and the kid actor is very annoying!). There's also a lot of "love is the strongest magic of all" stuff that, at least in the first season (which is as far as I've seen so far), doesn't quite gel with the constant repetition of "all magic has a price" -- hopefully that gets picked up later. Its problems aside, some of the actors are really good or at least a lot of fun, and there are enough fun plots running through the series to keep me interested even when I was rolling my eyes at a particular episode or idea. As with most 20+ episode series, I found myself wishing it had been trimmed quite a bit, but if you're interested, I'd recommend at least giving it a try. There's much worse on TV.

Does anyone know the show SLIDERS?: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sliders "Sliders" had promise and it delivered some here and there for a few startng seasons, but it had its fair amount of cheese. Add to that the characters were mostly under developed and the characters aside from Mallory, didn't evolve very much. As the ratings fluctuated and the Sci-Fi Channel wanted beter ratings and would switch around the show's days and timeslots, it was obvious the show was getting notes from high above and too many cooks in the kitchen; as a results the writing and plotting started suffering. As I recall, it was cancelled two or three times, with the last time the final death nail. Until then we were left with cast changes, cliff hangers and just a mess. The two best characters on the show: one was murdered, the other left. I don't recall how many seasons you can watch before it goes down hill, but I think you're safe for at least three. Can you help me clear up who is the credited composer on the "Alphas" pilot? Yes, I klnow what IMDb says.

Thor, I've not seen it, but there was a series from the mid 1990's called "Legend", which is kind of like an early precusor to the Will Smith "Wild Wild West", according to what I've seen, with western and some science/science fiction mixed in. It stared Richard Dean Anderson and only lasted one season. Might want to check it out. A couple episodes are up, in poor quality, on Youtube. By the by, RDA stars and Ken Harrison scores. And if that "MacGyver" connection isn't enough, John de Lance is a co-star (also in an episode of "MacGyver"). There's no full compsoer listing for hte show yet, but I know he did at least three episodes.

Thor, can you give me some feedback on the quality of Once Upon A Time? I've heard it's good, but haven't seen it myself. I like it but............ the acting is atrocious! Mulan is esp. amatuerish. The actors are made to look even worse by the presence of the superb Robert Carlysle. He is a man amongst midgets - pun intended. Plus, we are subjected once again to Barbara Hershey; a great beauty who destroyed her face with surgery{ she doesn't look as hideous as in BLAK SWAN thank,s top copious amounts of makeup} Its main virtue is its unpredictability, which is keeping me watching -so far. brm

Thor, I don't know that it's your cup of tea -- I suspect maybe it isn't -- but the French show Les Revenants (or in English The Returned) is excellent. The premise is that the dead in a town start returning -- but not as zombies. Instead, they are just back, alive, and don't remember dying, and can't account for the time lapse (years in some cases), so the show starts off weaving between the drama of these people trying to re-integrate into their lives and figure out what happened and grows into something more. It's perhaps a little slow and atmospheric for your taste in TV, from what I can glean of your taste from this thread, but it's an excellent show. It's one of the best shows I watched last year. Creepy, mysterious and maddeningly frustrating at times. Loved it.
