MONDAY, MAY 27

THE HOBBIT---Evangeline Lilly commented on playing Elf Tauriel, "She's a very, very young elf. She's only 600 years old, unlike Legolas who's like, 1,900 years old and Thranduil who's about 3,000 years old. She doesn't have quite the wisdom and pose that those two boys do; she's a little more... gritty. A little more spontaneous, passionate perhaps. To play this character I need to have a certain amount of grace. But I'm also supposed to be an absolutely ruthless, deadly killer."

MACHETE KILLS---Charlie Sheen will use his birth name of Carlos Estevez for the first time in his career in the sequel. Sheen/Estevez plays the President of the United States. The movie aslso stars Danny Trejo, Mel Gibson, Sofia Vergara, Jessica Alba and Vanessa Hudgens. It premiers on September 13.

BARBARELLA---director Nicolas Winding Refn commented on his remake of the cult 1968 Jane Fonda sci fi movie, "We are just writing it still. I kind of went back to the original comic, and really began to close my eyes and fantasize about women in outer space and it looked pretty good." Asked who will play the title role, he replied, "No, I haven’t started casting yet." The script is being written by the former James Bond team of Neal Purvis and Robert Wade (DIE ANOTHER DAY, CASINO ROYALE).

THE BIG LEBOWSKI---Joel Coen said no sequel is planned, "John Turturro, who wants it, talks to us incessantly about doing a sequel about his character Jesus. He even has the story worked out, which he’s pitched to us a few times, but I can’t really remember it… No, I don’t see it in our future." Joel Coen added, "I don’t think it’s going to happen… I just don’t like sequels."

THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E.---Tom Cruise has left the remake movie to concentrate on MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 5.

THOR: THE DARK WORLD---Ray Stevenson commented on the sequel, "In the first 'Thor' Asgard had this tremendous peace among the 9 realms. They were riding at the heights. Everything is working and looking as it should be.
In this one, the realms are being whipped up into various rebellions. There is a darker malignant force out there and we are in the process of engaging in long protracted skirmishes and battles.
The luster and shine of the city has been taken off and it all leads to a huge assault, an attack at the heart of Asgard. It could be completely wiped out, the stakes are a lot higher."

ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT---Jason Bateman said there might be more of the Netflix series or a movie, "There will be more to this story. [Creator] Mitch Hurwitz's intention always was to do a movie and when he started to write the movie script, the story that he wanted to tell was too long and too big to fit in a standard movie script. So he decided to take the first act of that movie and put it these episodes. Acts two or three will either be in a movie or a longer form on Netflix. Watching these [Netflix] episodes will be fully satisfying, and it all comes to a conclusion, but there are plenty of questions that are left unanswered...which we will finish at some other time."

SONS OF ANARCHY---CCH Pounder (THE SHIELD) joins the cast as a district attorney who gets involved with the SAMCRO biker gang.

LAW & ORDER: SVU---Mariska Hargitay confirmed she signed a new deal and is returning for Season 15. The Season 14 cliffhanger had her character being held at gunpoint by a serial rapist.

THE WHITE QUEEN---the BBC series premiers on Starz on August 10. THE BRIDGE, the US remake of the Scandinavian crime series, premiers on FX on July 10.

THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E.---Tom Cruise has left the remake movie

In honor of this, I have recorded myself singing the Man From Uncle theme. My fingers are crossed that they'll want to include it in the new film.

I got nothing against Cruise but I don't need him cornering the market on spy franchises anymore than I need JJ ABrams doing the same for scifi or Joss Whedon on pop culture events.

I thought they were going for reboot, I hope it will at least be better than Seed of Chucky which I've yet to sit through.

FRANCIS:

I thought it was a reboot, too, but the latest article refers to it as a "sequel".

At this point I wouldn't mind a reboot (with Brad Dourif still voicing chucky), the franchise has gone so far off base it became painful to watch.

Good. Turturro is hilarious in LEBOWSKI, but an entire film devoted to his character would be too much of a good thing. smile

WEDNESDAY, MAY 29

JAMES BOND---Sam Mendes (SKYFALL) is reportedly in talks to return as director for the 24th James Bond movie after earlier declining an offer from Eon Productions. Other candidates mentioned include Christopher Nolan (THE DARK KNIGHT), Nicolas Winding Refn (DRIVE), Ang Lee (LIFE OF PI), Tom Hooper (THE KING'S SPEECH), Shane Black (IRON MAN 3) and David Yates (HARRY POTTER).

THE ABOMINABLE DR. PHIBES---Johnny Depp will star in the Tim Burton remake of the 1971 horror movie which starred Vincent Price and Joseph Cotten. Earlier, Burton said, “Dr. Phibes was a childhood favorite of mine, a mix of pathos, horror and dark humor.”

THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E.----Henry Cavill (MAN OF STEEL) is in talks to replace Tom Cruise in the movie remake of the 1960s NBC spy series.

BEWARE THE NIGHT---Joel McHale (COMMUNITY) will co-star with Eric Bana and Olivia Munn in this Jerry Bruckheimer movie about a New York cop and a renegade priest who team up to battle demonic forces that threaten the city.

BIG EYES---Danny Huston will co-star with Amy Adams and Christoph Waltz in this movie about 1950s artist Margaret Keane, painter of the famous "big eyes" children, who sued her husband after he took claim for her work.

KILLING KENNEDY---National Geographic tv movie underway based on the Bill O'Reilly book about the John F. Kennedy assassination. Rob Lowe plays Kennedy, Ginnifer Goodwin (ONCE UPON A TIME) plays Jackie Kennedy and Michelle Trachtenberg (BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER) will play Marina Oswald.

X-MEN---Hugh Jackman said he would like to do a 20th Century Fox Wolverine crossover with rival Marvel's Avengers, “I don’t know what’s happening behind the scenes, but I think it’s fantastic. I actually just asked the other day, I said, ‘I don’t know what the legal situation is, but why don’t these companies come together? Why isn’t it possible?’
Because personally, I would love to mix it up with Robert Downey Jr. and Iron Man and kick his ass. It’d be great… Consistency is incredible. Who wouldn’t want to be involved with that?”
Also, X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST director Bryan Singer released a photo of a crewmember wearing a jacket with "Trask Industries" on it which appeared to confirm rumors that Peter Dinklage will play Bolivar Trask.

AMAZON.COM---ordered two new series. ALPHA stars John Goodman as a US Senator living with three other senators in Washington, DC. BETAS stars Ed Begley, Jr. in which four Silicon Valley whiz kids seek fame and fortune by developing a mobile phone social networking app.

Well, I guess it's official. Burton wants to remake every movie that ever influenced him as a kid. Psychologists would probably say that it is the manifestation of his subconscious desire to have created the originals. But, not quite having had the ability to do that, he does the next best thing...

Wotta shame.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 29

JAMES BOND---Shane Black (IRON MAN 3).

In my opinion Shane Black is actually a really great writer but not that good director (okey I have yet to see Iron Man 3). So if he will be working on a James Bond movie then I truly hope they only hire him as a writer and not as a director.

Hope it's not CGI, worse yet Flash animation. Wishing for traditional 2D, but I'm sure that won't happen.

This sounds like a disaster on so many different levels it might just turn out awesome.
