The Deuce - HBO

DIsappointing so far.
Great production values but it is a depressing wallow in low-life scum; hookers, pimps, corrupt cops, deadbeat bartenders, underhanded union bosses , Mafia thugs, cheating wives etc.

WOrst thing: the endless stream of simulated sex scenes. I am all for nudity- who doesn't like looking at gorgeous naked bodies. But, why do we have to be subjected to the embarassing spectacle of trained dramatic actors pretending to screw? We know what it looks like, dammitt!
What is the point? This is what I expect from SHowtime or Cinemax, NOT HBO!

I loved it. Especially the mayfield, the 70s, the pimps, and best of all, spotting the early 70s films at the cinemas along the strip

The Alienist is decent. Daniel Bruhl is great and it looks very nice. The music really works and I'd like to hear it away from the show. Seems to have some interesting odd bits in it.

Why am i not surprised. .....

Btw if by some miracle that hot NYU coed goes full-frontal, i will raise my rating to five stars!

Ugh, can we tell stories where there's some reason to live in this world? Are people ever gonna stop embracing the worst in mankind as great entertainment? And simulated sex, never sexy or erotic.

Anyone ever hear of LAWMAN?
Not the Burt Lancaster film w/Jerry Fielding score but a 50's television show.

Timeless Media, bless their hearts, has released this half-hour show on dvd.

I am sure Riotengine already owns the complete series

Deuce was sold as a look into the creation of the adult film industry. I was expecting a show that explored the release if DEEP THROAT and loosening of sexual mores.
This is a topic with heroes and villains. Sexual exploitation AND liberation. First amendment champions and oppressive courts.
Maybe later in the run?

El bruco
Its about the hos. And the pimps with hats n canes. And james franco's barman. And maggie G moving from ho to porn maker. And the streets. And curtis mayfield. And the era. The era is everything. Oh and james franco's spunky college dropout barmaid who made every episode worth watching.
Dont look to deep. Its a throwback in time. Savour it for what it is.

Just read an interview with writer/creator David Simon.
He says the twin characters are based on real people!
Also, that the show is set to run three years and follow the porn industry thru its move to California.
So, I will stick with it for now.

Did anyone watch the first episode (of six) of The Woman In White on BBC weekend past? I pretty much enjoyed it, brisk pace and nice settings. Decent cast as well, though the Hartwright chap bears an uncanny resemblance to Tom Chaplin from Keane. I'm familiar with the story of course, but I'm looking forward to the rest of the series. Good to see the BBC still doing these sort of dramas.

Yes, but don't let it get to your head.
