I received my copy of the "Kismet" Blu-ray today, and almost immediately watched it. First, it's gorgeous, and the audio sounded quite good with my elaborate surround system. But I found myself getting impatient with the movie, and did feel that it hasn't aged well (despite looking gorgeous). Once I finished watching it, I felt a need to see a more contemporary musical, so I put on my Blu-ray of Alan Parker's "Fame," which has hardly aged at all in the 24 years since it was released, and what fun it was! I remember seeing the movie at the Picwood Theater on the west side of L.A. and being so thrilled by it that I returned a few days later with some of my best friends, who also loved it. Watching it today, I was reminded how wonderful it was, and during the big ("I Sing The Body Electric") musical number at the end, was bawling my eyes out.

Re: Yes, KISMET is one of those musicals that stubbornly refuses to come to life. At least I have the Rhino expanded CD of the soundtrack. erik: Not like "Fame" comes to life!!!

Re: Irene Cara She was soooooooooooooooo wonderful in "Fame," and didn't she have some connection to writing the Oscar-winning title song (beside singing it)? We would see her often over the next decade or 2, but at IMDb I show the last entry "Beyond Awareness to Action: Ending Abuse of Women" (Video short) in which she was the program host is from 1995. Will have to Google her! Follow-Up: I went to her website and it lists some of her awards, like the Grammy, of course, but it also lists her winning the Oscar, so I guess she WAS included as one of the writers of that title song for the movie. And let's not forget "What A Feeling" from "Flashdance." I only stayed there for a few minutes, but the site looks interesting. I noticed a mention of the album "Irene Cara Presents Hot Caramel" from a few years ago and went to the iTunes Store and sampled some of it -- there are some interesting songs included and you might want to check it out.

Just loved Dolores Gray, and if you've not heard her singing in the original (1959) Broadway cast recording of "Destry Rides Again" with Andy Griffith you're probably in for a treat!
