However, it has proven "inspirational" enough that I have purchased Star Wars stuff I DO like, such as the Russ Manning and Archie Goodwin-Al Williamson comic strip books. I've waited decades for these strips to receive the quality publication they deserve.

Oooh, did they finally reprint that stuff on nice stock? Last I saw of it was in the early 90s on Dark Horse Comics.

Indeed they have:

no, it is a blockbuster and critical success, where I went, "that's it?"

Don't think I've ever seen a more divisive film be so successful. Indeed a paradox.

agreed, it is a an oddball, maybe it is because they audience feel obliged to pay to see Star Wars regardless, and critics felt obliged because it was a 'serious' Star Wars' movie. I found it a quite a slog of misery and boredom, and this is coming from a guy that loves European films.

... Why did no one tell me they did an Artist Book of Williamson's ESB series? Jesus Christ and God Almighty, and I thought the Sterenko SHIELD book looked nice!

We wanted to protect you from the $150.00 price tag. wink

I have all the issues already, but I'd love to see some page samples to determine if this edition is worth it.

This statement got my wife and myself contemplating our decision to see the movie. IIRC, we went the 1st time without being aware of the nature of the film generally, apart from the fact that the Luke and Leia characters were going to still be in it and we wanted to see the resolution of the Rey/Luke interaction - admittedly with the expectation that it would follow the narrative and style set up by Lucas and Abrams. For us, we felt we were taken for a ride in the sense that the film had pretty much been clumsily saturated in a particular stance of the so-called 'culture wars', to the extent it didn't feel like Star Wars any more.

We will not be returning to see Episode IX, although I will buy the Williams' score. Couldn't resist that one. Oh, and I will not be buying The Last Jedi Blu-ray.

Eloquently stated.

Really looking forward to seeing this in Dolby Vision on my new 4K TV. Hopefully all the films get the same treatment.

I plan on picking up the 4K Blu-ray even though I didn't really care for the movie (it didn't feel like Star Wars -- I think Michael's post from above may explain why). I hope I enjoy it more from the comfort of my own home. I think I blacked out after the Leia Mary Poppins scene.

From what I understand the movie was finished in 4K so the 4K Blu-ray with be a true 4K scan and not upscaled from 2K. I expect some eye candy.

Really looking forward to seeing this in Dolby Vision on my new 4K TV.

LG OLED?

Yeah, it’s gonna look nuts. Also, if you have Dolby Atmos, it’s gonna sound nuts too.

I considered the LG, but decided to go with the Sony 930e LED 65-inch. I also picked up a PS4 pro for gaming.
Now I’m just waiting for Sony to unleash their new 4K Blu-ray player that is Dolby vision-ready. And eventually a receiver with 4K pass through. Also considering the new Apple TV.

My 4K collection includes The Last Jedi, Bladerunner, Bladerunner 2049, Thor Ragnarok and Alien Covenant.

I read that Sony TV is one of the best you can get at the price. Unfortunately Costco doesn't sell Sony TVs so I went with a 55" Samsung MU800 Costco variant (equivalent to the MU8000). It's an awesome TV and great for gaming. For some reason Samsung doesn't do Dolby Vision (licensing costs?)...although I read it can be added as a software update now instead of needing special hardware so maybe if it beats out HDR 10 Samsung will add it? The cheapest LG OLED was $700 more expensive for the same screen size.

I got an Xbox One S to watch 4k Blu-rays. So far 4K ET has impressed me the most. I thought about getting a receiver too, but settled on a Samsung soundbar this weekend (sounds amazing). Added a Logitech Harmony 665 for fun to control everything.

If you are looking for a great deal on the Apple TV 4K DIRECTV NOW offers a free Apple TV 4K with prepaying for three months. Their cheapest package is $35 per month so you can get one for about $100. I went for the deal when they were offering it with 4 months prepay and I received the Apple TV in the mail three days later.

Nice. That Samsung has pretty good reviews. I dipped into my line of credit to get my TV. Couldn’t afford it otherwise. It was a bday present to myself. I’ll also be using my Xbox to watch Blu-ray in the meantime. Just need a high speed hdmi cable.

That is a good deal with the Apple TV. Unfortunately as I live in Canada, I’m not eligible.

And yeah, lots of TVs and players are capable of upgrading to DV via firmware update.

I will pick it up right after work on it's release day. I'm going to get the 4K-Blu-ray combo pack.
