"The Adventures of Brisco County Jr." starred Bruce Campbell as a bounty hunter who rides the Old West, fighting bad guys, many with futuristic-type gadgets. The expensive series aired for a single season on Fox beginning in August 1993. R. Lee Ermey appeared in the pilot (which became the first episode) of the show as U.S. Marshal "Briscoe County Sr.," who has apprehended a gang of outlaws and its leader, the notorious "John Bly" (Billy Drago). While transporting them to stand trial, County is murdered and the gang escapes.

Randy Edelman's rousing theme to the show became a mainstay of NBC's Olympic coverage.

In DEAD MAN WALKING, a nun, "Sister Helen Prejean" (Susan Sarandon), while comforting convicted killer "Matthew Poncelet" (Sean Penn) on death row, empathizes with both the killer and his victim's families. While the focus of the 1995 film is on Matthew and Sister Helen, director Tim Robbins does not shy away from examining the other people in this story. Some very powerful scenes are when Helen talks to the families of the victims. One such couple is the "Percys" (R. Lee Ermey and Celia Weston). Columbia Records released both a song-track album and a score album with the music of David Robbins and others.

In the horror comedy THE FRIGHTENERS, after a tragic car accident kills his wife, "Frank Bannister" (Michael J. Fox) discovers he can communicate with the dead to con people. However, when a demonic spirit appears, he may be the only one who can stop it.

There are some scenes with the spirits that are set in a cemetery. When writer Fran Walsh and writer-director Peter Jackson were creating the part of the Drill Sergeant in the graveyard, they wrote the part as a spoof of R. Lee Ermey's character in FULL METAL JACKET, with the intention of getting an actor in New Zealand (where the film was shot) for the role. But they didn't feel the actors who auditioned were right, and finally ended up approaching Ermey himself, who took the role of "Sergeant Hiles."

The script originally included another character at the cemetery called the Gatekeeper, a big chubby angel who would be acting as the cemetery's guardian. A large Gatekeeper prop was created, and some scenes with him were filmed. However, these were omitted from the film, as Peter Jackson couldn't really find a good explanation for the angel's presence. Most of its role was taken over by the Sergeant Hiles character.

Danny Elfman's score for the 1996 film was released by MCA.

By the time Hay took office as Secretary of State for President McKinley, the war was effectively over.
