When i was a kid Miss World - run by the Morleys - was a massive event on tv. I havent seen a beauty pageant like that in 30 years. Didnt know they still did such things.

All i care about now is world peace...! wink

and Pizza!

Damn, pizza! I forgot pizza. Do you think its too late to tell the fsm judges i meant to bring up pizza?! wink

pzfan, I'm sure some women in these beauty contests are signing with modeling agencies. I don't know of any of the most famous Victoria Secret models who were once Miss America contestants, but there might be some. They can always send in their own portfolio to modeling agencies if they so desire.

I'm really disappointed in not finding out who the "minority losers" are and where their "isolated pockets" are in the U.S.A.

So, is it the plan to roll this new philosophy down to all of the state and local pageants that feed the contestants to the Miss America Pageant?

As far as making it a contest of talent and smarts, don't we already have those? America's Got Talent has been running since 2006 and Jeopardy's been on the air since 1964.

That's right! WHEEL OF FORTUNE combined both brains (of the guests) and beauty (Vanna White). Granted the "brains" part was pretty feeble, not unlike this thread.

I like the wording of the thread title - "portion" is in keeping with the meat market and men's appetite metaphors.

Beauty pageants have been woefully out of step with society since at least the 1970s.

Eliminating the swimsuit segment does not get to the heart of how antiquated these things are: Bringing out a line of pretty girls to be judged by men.

So Miss America should either embrace what it is - swimsuits and all - or go the way of the dodo bird. I prefer the latter.

Someone tweeted this:

"Miss America no longer to be judged on personal appearance.

"Long jumpers no longer to be judged on length of jump, but ability to spout "woke" progressive cliches about women's empowerment.

"Olympic swimmers to be judged on strength of virtue signal."

No swimsuits, goodbye TV ratings.

BTW, there is a Mr. United States contest for men only. Don't know if they wear speedos or not.

"If people wanted this, they'd have overwhelmingly asked for it. Not a minority of losers located in isolated pockets of the country." Justin, who are these "minority losers" you refer to? Guess I'm a loser.

Guess I am too joan.

Regardless of the sentiment, bad metaphor. The poor dodo... frown

I used to go to a "Supermen Competition" in LA.

Yes, it was guys. Yes, there was a swimsuit portion.

And yes, I doubt I would have gone if there was not a swimsuit portion.

Well, if we are judging them on their brains solely, them a number of things leap to mind:

  • Why do we have to see them at all?

You won me over on this one, JB!

On the other hand, men have not been objectified for their looks for NEARLY as long, or as extensively, as women have.

So maybe my analogy doesn't work.

Kinda reminds me of Babs Streisand in Funny Girl - that Ziegfield number with the fake baby bump - going against the Flo!

The whole thing is incredibly hilarious. Integrated circuits short-circuit the integrated circuit.

This is just some kind of publicity stunt like no-nudes Playboy was. I think it didn't work then and it won't work now.

I dunno, it's a mixture of things, the SJW thing, people cutting cable, and free porn on the internet.
