My one and only issue with Vestoff's performance, is her speaking "say the tradesmen with a grin", which to my director's mind, should be sung! I saw a production of the show at Ford's Theatre, this summer, and the Abagail was the best thing about it.

I never had the chance to see the lady on stage, but I've always loved her as Abigail, and was so sorry to learn that she passed at such a young age.
It was always a thrill for me when I recognized her doing a TV commercial.

PJ, why do we get the intuitive feelin' you're MUCHO more
creatively fulfilled behind the stage no matter how much you enjoy being in front of it? wink

Heaven, for me, would be spending all eternity directing plays and musicals.

They want me to quit,
They say, "John give up the fight!"
Still to England I say,
"Goodnight, forever, goodnight!"
For I have crossed the Rubicon,
Let the bridge be burned behind me!
Come what may, come what may!
COMMITMENT!
The croakers all say we'll rue the day,
There'll be hell to pay and fiery purgatory!
Through all the gloom, through all the gloom,
I can see the rays of ravishing light, and GLORY!
IS ANYBODY THERE?
DOES ANYBODY CARE?
Does anybody see...what I see?
I see fireworks!
I see the pomp and the pageant parade!
I hear the bells ringing out!
I hear the cannons roar!
I see Americans...ALL Americans,
FREE...FOREVER MORE!

Ahhhh, neo.
You did my heart good today, old friend...er...PALLY! big grin

This is one of my favorite musicals. I saw the original production on Broadway and pretty sure it was with Howard Da Silva. I remember William Daniels to be amazing and that made me a life long fan. Years later, I saw the Broadway revival with Brent Spiner who I thought did an excellent John Adams, albeit differently from William Daniels. He is a better singer. I also have the original cast album on vinyl and later bought it on CD when that was issued. People of my age played the adapted score a lot in school band.

This musical works on many levels. It is my favorite musical, primarily because of actor, Donald Madden, who played John Dickinson. He never played the part on stage, but he certainly made it his own in the film. Sadly, it is the only film work he did.
