On May 31st, Freya and I will be leaving the US for Finland. There are no plans for us to return; I'm finding myself very excited about the future. When we finally cemented our plans, and had a date for her return, we both breathed a sigh of relief.

Only 65 more days.....

My father died not long after I was born. While my older brother has memories of him, I don't. My mother died in 2008. When I left the religion I was born into--the Jehovah's Witnesses--I was "disfellowshipped", the equivalent to a very severe excommunication. As a result, I've not seen my brothers or sister since 1980; and they are not allowed to contact me without risking disfellowshipping as well.

This happened to a friend of mine, it was very sad (and just a bit maddening). She and her sister were very close until she left. But when she had babies, the family didn't want to stay away and, somehow, they're all allowed to communicate without further issues. I'm sorry it didn't go that way for ya, but you look to be embarking on an amazing change and a great new life. Good luck!!!!!

And once I finally master Finnish (like in about thirty goddamn years...damn, this is one wicked-ass language to learn...no wonder Rosetta Stone doesn't have a Finnish version), I'll completely fit in anyway.

There's a Finnish lady at work. I know what the language sounds like. You can't mistake it. Might I make a suggestion? First learn to speak in english with a Finnish accent and then take on the real McCoy wink

Five months.

I hope he's been able to set up a rude sort-of shelter, or just a windbreak somewhere, because it might get cold during the winter. smile

Anybody know how to reach M-EC?

The old email address for him gets no response, although he used to say he rarely used it.
