Nice to see people so excited about a Eugene lourie film.years ago i did a 100 pg thesis on Eugene Lourie's 3 big monster pics, this one. beast from 20, ooo fathoms, the giant behemoth. You see it's coming for you, you hoping someone will stop it from reaching you but everyone between you and the menace is failing to stop it, it's getting closer, closer, closer, the suspense , the scary aticapation,, the failure, then the ultimate chaos. EUGENE LOURIE, THE MASTER. no one ever did it better, with all the money the effects, i really wonder if anyone ever will, you see it is because it is all about the subtle state of mind[blair witch project] bigger does not mean better.it is all about the simple quiet moments of our lives, our desires, our fears, our needs, our will to survive in this existence that was given to us.

Quote from a NEW YORK TIMES movie critic back when the film was first release, nothing like it since KING KONG-33, Try lighting a cigarette during the last 20 minutes.

Solium, you should understand that all previous releases on home video of "Gorgo" were, to be blunt, rotten -- wisps of pale, washed out color, details lost in contrasty images, and washed out night sequences. Seeing those photos that the guy took of his TV screen was a huge relief to me -- especially the ones with Gorgo on the flat bed truck and framed by the yellow mechanical equipment -- finally some color in the image -- details -- decent contrast levels -- and some depth to the images. It looks like it will be a major upgrade over the previous releases -- fingers still crossed.

It could practically serve as a demo disc for video inconsistency; however, it is a million times better than the DVD. Happy to be seeing so much color!

I finally received my copy yesterday -- and spent the afternoon watching the film (with popcorn of course!). The transfer is, as so many have noted, wildly variable -- but even in the bad patches the image is colorful with detail. Many sections look absolutely lovely and gorgogeous. I did A - B comparisons using my two Blu players and a previous VCI DVD release and a Japanese DVD import release. The before and after is dramatic -- but in the back of my mind, in the film theater that resides in my imagination, there will still be playing at times a perfect "Gorgo" -- one that has not been eclipsed by this bluray. If only better elements could be found! Still, I am grateful to have a further improved version of this hugely entertaining film. It always put a smile on my face.
