What's the world coming to?! Agreeing with Bruce and not appreciating The Enforcer... I agree with TG. And Bruce. And Dr Samuel Johnson. Enforcer wasnt awful, just a bit silly and nowhere near as fresh and edgy as Dirty harry and Magnum Force. It was still streets ahead of the latter Callaghan rubbish - Dead Pool and the other one, which was so bad I cant even remember the name. The one with the gas-fired magnum and the rape. Another film - as pointed out above - made worse by the over-indulgence of the appalling Sondra Locke. But even the Enforcer was miles better than Gauntlet.

Is Clint Eastwood's THE GAUNTLET worth buying on Blu-ray? Many of the reviews say THE GAUNTLET is another Dirty Harry-type movie. I have The Dirty Harry series on dvd, and I'm not a big fan. Most reviewers have their BIG heads stuck up their *tiny* holes. Mr. Eastwood plays as far from "Dirty Harry" as you can get. He stumbles out of his car, in the AM, on his way to work and breaks a perfectly good bottle of whiskey in the process. He relies on drink more than his cop training, which everyone else seems to have to fill in the holes, as far as that is concerned. His *prisoner* has to wake him up to the fact that they are NOT going to make it, if they proceed on their present course, which is straight for disaster, until Eastwood wakes up, and starts smelling the clues. This is a character piece, punctuated by action bits, NOT the other way around. Dirty Harry would have whipped out his "cannon" and blown everybody away, but, in this movie, he only has a tiny 38. which is hardly any good against the legion of cops who manage to shoot down a whole house! WHY do most folks maintain that this movie has "unbelievable plot-holes"? More a problem with *logic*, I do think. How could a WHOLE department be moved by their "commanding officer" to do what they do , at the end of the movie? Would YOU obey your CO, just by *his* word, if you thought that he was in the wrong? ( Of course, a LOT of NYPD officers saw this as a "training film" of sorts, when they shot an unarmed immigrant, a few years ago) Oh yeah-FILM SCORE MONTHLY!!!! You need to add a "draft save" feature to these boards , because the "time-out" happens too fast an I lose a LOT of good posts!!!!!

The 1970's gave most drummers a lot of space to "go crazy" as far as "fills" were concerned and the main titles of THE GAUNTLET certainly give THAT drummer his due! ( what's his name?) AND, withOUT CGI, one of the most impressive shots in ANY movie *period*. After the prolonged motorcycle/chopper chase, the bad guys perish in a flurry of sparking power lines as their chopper goes down. Yeah, at first it's, "show the tower model then show the chopper model then cover up everything in *bullshit*. The final shot of that scene, clearly shows Eastwood and Locke looking on as the chopper meets its fiery end, near the tower, with full background present, ALL TOGETHER and ALL at the SAME TIME!!! No bluescreen, no matte lines no *nothing* like that.....*masterfulll*

Have only seen it a couple times, years ago, but remember enjoying it. And damn, dig that poster! A shame we don't get poster art like this anymore. Great poster but why is his hand going through the glass??? It makes no sense and has always bothered me! "On" not "Through".....take another look.... Of course, your perception is different than mine......... Yes, it IS a shame! When I was a kid, the *first* thing that I saw was posters for movies either NOW PLAYING or movies that were coming. I always admired how the artists could condense a whole movie into a single one sheet, and how I couldn't *wait* to see it! That, and the smell of popcorn, always enchanted me...... For some damn reason, photographs replaced original art and I think that trend should be reversed
