Hah. i like to think we play third-class football, Jim. 3-1 battering by Hull City for Bolton today. They won't sack Owen Coyle, but they couldn't do it quick enough for me. But whoever replaces him has a hell of a problem with a bunch of lazy/talented or totally untalented players.
Last season I remember the routine hatred that poor ol' Stevie Kean had to deal with from the Blackburn faithful, but the supporters for Bolton just adored Coyle! And they anchored the bottom of the table virtually all season, until Wigan--who miraculously escaped relegation--kept that spot warm for them.
Adored is a bit much, Jim - well, maybe at the start - mostly we were just thankful it wasn't Megson. He certainly did a lot better from the fans than Kean, that's for sure. Though he wasn't much better a manager.
We've given him a massive amount of time and what we thought was understanding, but turns out was rope. He's a nice bloke and all, just abso-bloody-lutely clueless. Daniel Sturridge kept us up the year before with 8 goals in ten games.
Phil Gartside is just slime, which is a massive problem.

Okay, and just so we arent one-dimensional, we also play triangles and mix it up a little as well.
Then we let in 4 goals.
And then Carlton Cole comes on who is about a formiddable as the gentle giant in that Tom Hanks prison film - you know, the one who swallows butterflies? That's Carlton. 7 foot and 12 inches of amiable blancmange.
However you cannot argue with his record: A goal every 13 and a half matches. That's a proper striker.

I stand corrected, Bill. Looks like Big Sam has changed his footballing philosophy. Your strike force sounds formidable. I remember Vaz Te would regularly fall over and fail to score whenever he got the chance to play. Seems to be doing better now. We should have kept Jussi and I'll always like Nolan, we missed him. Taylor was okay for us but not great.
Interesting. The Bolton Hammers!! ha ha. No, youre alright, Sam hasnt but I think the style will be a contentious issue all season among the fans. Yeah Nolan started slowly by his standards but by the end of the season we realised how well he'd done. Strikes a ball so well and with restrain and good technique - see that first goal he got saturday? Vaz Te has been trickier on the ball and has finished well against championship level teams - what a powerful shot when he hits it - a little like Ben Arfur yesterday. We will see how he does now he is up against better Prem defenders. We're playing far more longer ball than west ham have ever done and a lot more of a pressing game to get the ball back, but we do seem to be knocking it about a bit too. As far as doing well, this looks like early form against weaker teams. Wait till we play some better sides and it could be more like the 3-0 against swansea.

Typical hammers luck - most effective aerial striker signing since David Cross and he runs fulham ragged then gets injured for an indefinite period.
lets hope we dont have to survive too many matches expecting Carlton Blancmange to fill Carroll's boots.
