If DDL had ever done a Star Wars or Star Trek movie and then made this announcement, half the FSMer prison population would be on suicide watch and/or have their meds dosages increased by half.
Haha! I was just going to mention I don't think I've ever seen a single one of his films. Who is he again? BTW, I didn't think actors announced retirement, I thought they just quietly fade into the night.
You haven't seen ANY Daniel Day-Lewis films? How is that possible?
Looking at IMDB he's only done approximately 30-35 films since 1982? I've seen Gandhi and The Bounty so I guess I've seen him in something after all. Don't ask me to point him out from a crowd though.
No Last of the Mohicans? No Gangs of New York? No There Will Be Blood? No Lincoln?
No wonder you have such contrarian opinions about movies.
He's retiring because he has no interest in playing a superhero. Let him go in peace. What's more important is that Hollywood has retired from making movies for people older than twelve.

Sure. Dunkirk is for people younger than twelve. Logan is for people younger than twelve. La La Land is for people younger than 12. Baby Driver is for people younger than twelve.
Such as Daniel Day-Lewis are in constant demand, via their agents, for new projects. The fact that he made only 21 movies despite three Oscars tells you something about his selectivity.
By announcing his retirement, he frees himself from 1,000 daily scripts through his letterbox, and from the attention of paparazzi, studios, P.R., publicity. 100 reasons. And he can fire his agent.

Nah, there be a 1,000 more scripts said to be so good it will bring him out of retirement!
The man is 60 yo and is, no doubt, quite wealthy. He probably wants to enjoy a more stress-free life in his remaining years. Not hard to figure out. A great role (and huge paycheck) may bring him back one more time, though.
Logan is for people younger than twelve. ------------------------ Yeah, actually it is. ------------------------ You have issues if you genuinely think Logan is for anyone younger than twelve.
The MPAA rated LOGAN [R] for strong brutal violence and language throughout, and for brief nudity. That means no one under 17 is admitted without being accompanied by a parent or guardian. At least the MPAA believed that LOGAN was not generally suited for the under-12 set.

No surprise you completely missed my point. Tons of graphic violence and cursing doesn't make it a mature film. Such over indulgence actually makes it a juvenile film.
Fourteen-year-old Daniel Day-Lewis made his screen acting debut in 1971's SUNDAY BLOODY SUNDAY, as a young street vandal. He described his first acting experience, in which he was paid £2 to vandalize expensive cars parked outside his local church in Petersfield, Hampshire, as "heaven." John Schlesinger directed the drama. Ron Geesin provided "special music" for the film.
Day-Lewis had his first named role in a feature film in 1982's GANDHI. He played "Colin," one of a group of boys who insults Gandhi (Ben Kingsley) as he is walking on a sidewalk in South Africa. Richard Attenborough directed the biopic. The film's score by Ravi Shankar and George Fenton was released on an RCA LP, but it has never been reissued on CD.
