Question about "Inferno": How good was the restoration on the middle two episodes? Every review I've seen makes note of the quality dropping because of the absence of source tapes, but is that bad. or is this just another case of teenaged DVD reviewersmaking mountains out of molehills? This is not bad at all, Sgt. Benton. Don't worry, go get "Inferno" because it is a masterpiece. Drop me an e-mail and I'll send you a screenshot if you like.

You might want to refer to the Doctor Who Restoration Team website. They have a detailed article on the restoration work carried out on Inferno. http://www.restoration-team.co.uk/

The Dalek War box set is now out, with Frontier in Space and Planet of the Daleks. http://bit.ly/aoq2XU I'm really looking forward to watching these. Pertwee was my first Doctor and remains my favorite, the one against whom all other Doctors are measured. Sentimental choice, I'm sure, but there's a sentimental story to go with it. I told the story on my blog a while back. You see, there was this girl...http://thatneilguy.blogspot.com/2008/01/who-is-doctor.html

The Doctor, The Brig and his UNIT and the Master remain my favourite characters. The Dalek War box set is a must. You won't be disappointed.

I just read a fascinating essay in ABOUT TIME 3--"Who's Running the Country?" and in it, author Tat Wood gives we yanks the backstory to Britain's woes during the 1970s; the actions of Wilson, Heath, and Callaghan are all recalled as well as "kingmaker" Jermy Thorpe--the PM is named "Jeremy" in the Pertwee story, "The Green Death"-- as well as the botched assassination(!) of one of Thorpe's ex-lovers. Anyway, this apparently ties in with how government was represented on Dr Who. However, the real-life happenings are infinitely more interesting--and insane. I love the About Time series. Have read 'em all now and am currently working on the revised About Time 3. Many of the essays and other notes placing the stories in a cultural context are truly brilliant.

I have vols 3-6, having just gotten 6 for Christmas. Apparently vol 2 is no longer being sold on Amazon and is selling for nearly a thousand dollars on Marketplace! That's ridiculous, especially since the publisher, Mad Norwegian Press, still has it for $15.95... I enjoyed vol 2, but if I can get hundreds of dollars for my copy, I'm gonna go list it right now!

Good evening Neil. Tell me your top ten Jon Pertwee episodes? Are you rather Brigadier or Master? Sadly, I haven't really seen much Pertwee since I was a kid, so I can't really rank them. I would probably place the Katy Manning photo with Dalek at the top of the list, though. Ahem. Anyway. The brig and co. feel like old friends to me, and Delgado will always be the definitive Master. And again, a lot of that is just nostalgic feelings, just sense memories of shows I originally watched in 5th grade. When i got to high school, the Tom Baker episodes began airing and I remember getting such pleasure from having the Pertwee back story in my head. I already knew the UNIT guys, I already knew about Daleks. It felt so great when, for me, they returned in the Baker years. I have some Pertwee stories on dvd now, but still haven't had a chance to watch them all.
