Yes, zip. And that loony bin/laptop line was funny. Maybe its me but you do wonder that if someone spends and hour and a quarter late on a saturday replying to every post in a thread - mostly with the word BULLSHIT - that either they just got in from the bar or maybe its medication time???? "....If Mr McMurphy doesn't want to take his medication orally, I'm sure we can arrange that he can have it some other way. But I don't think that he would like it..."

Darn it, I have to disagree with my friends Bruce, Mike and Mitch. I really like this film, despite its preposterousness throughout. Probably the best part is Jerry's Enforcerish score, but it's more fun than at least the last two Dirty Harrys. Where I differ from Mike is in thinking that it's not really a Dirty Harry type film - more like a grubbier Coogan's Bluff. One part of the film is pretty intense, and in fact surprised me with its brutality when I saw it in the cinema - that particular bluray chapter could be entitled "Box Car Willy". Overall, I'd happily spring for this at a budget price. And yes, marvellous artwork. TG Well, much as I always love to agree with my tall English friend, I felt a bit differently. A common thread that links GAUNTLET in awfulness to at least one of the last two DIRTY HARRY films is the shared presence of Eastwood's erstwhile slut, his answer to the lifeless acting of Dolores Taylor in BILLY JACK, one Sondra Locke. Funny, I liked her initial performance, in THE HEART IS A LONELY HUNTER, but somewhere after that I guess she just decided to be awful. Happily for her, Eastwood apparently was not looking for screen talent as much as other things at the time they connected. I doubt however that even a female co-star with talent could have saved THE GAUNTLET from its own silly story and dialogue. In case you're wondering, no, I didn't particularly love this film. For me, it embodied all of Eastwood's flaws as a moviemaker, score concept included, and few of the things that made some of his films great fun. Just my opinion of course. (Give me THE ENFORCER any day!)

When I first saw THE GAUNTLET in the theater, I too thought it was over-the-top and unrealistic, and I avoided it thereafter. . you shoulda seen it in 70mm? !!!!!! edit
