2.3 The Survivors - Holy cow! They staged a friggin' earthquake! Brilliant!
2.4 The Bank - Absolutely LOVED this one. James Daly was awesome, the plot was awesome, and the ending was tasty. Perfect episode.

Recent Season 2 screenings:
2.3 The Survivors - Holy cow! They staged a friggin' earthquake! Brilliant!
2.4 The Bank - Absolutely LOVED this one. James Daly was awesome, the plot was awesome, and the ending was tasty. Perfect episode.
"The Survivors" is considered by many as a classic episode thanks to Albert Paulsen's performance.
I like both episodes but "The Survivors" is high on my season 2 list.
"The Bank" is the first East German episode and Peter Graves' Inspector Zatopek is memorable.

Recent Season 2 screenings:
2.5 / 2.6 - The Slave Parts 1 & 2 - Excellent two-parter full of great moments. I'll be revisiting this one again fairly soon I think. Percy Rodriguez was a highlight.
2.7 - Operation "Heart" - I think this is the first time I've seen Pernell Roberts in anything besides Bonanza and Trapper John, M.D. I'm just not used to seeing him with hair.
2.8 - The Money Machine - Ooooooo, LOVED THIS ONE!! This will no doubt be in my top 5 of the season. I found it mesmerizing and I loved seeing Barney huddled up in that machine and spitting out the counterfeit cash. I'll say it again: I like how this show takes its time and doesn't rush things. During the sequence when Phelps is feeding the paper to the machine, we see each and every movement of Barney that propels the illusion. It heightens the suspense of the moment. I must also mention how great Brock Peters was as the guest baddie. There's no doubt about it; the man had strong screen presence.

Recently screened from Season 2:
2.9 The Seal - Oh man, this one was AWESOME! As usual, I was blown away by the writing. HOW did the writers come up with these intricate plots? Amazing. Darren McGavin was a good adversary, and it was fun to watch Mort Mills spend the entire episode looking at everyone suspiciously. As for the "cat walk" sequence...I think I may have been holding my breath. It was a brilliant exercise in suspense (which didn't have or need music), and proved that no matter how much you train a cat, they still do what they want in a roundabout way and are unpredictable. One of the coolest suspense sequences of the show so far IMO (and I wonder if that was the same cat who belonged to Gary Seven in the episode of Star Trek entitled Assignment Earth).

Interesting how, unlike in Season 1, the episode endings now have that "ha ha ha" cutesie buddy-buddy vibe, including The Seal in which Phelps ask the cat what he thinks, then they all laugh heartily. Eesh.

Recent Season 2 screenings:
2.10 Charity - awfully good. Fritz Weaver and Hazel Court were grrrrreat!
2.11/12 The Council Parts 1 & 2 - no surprise here; the 2-parters are always top-notch. Lots of good tension in this one, like during the sequence when Cinnamon is giving Rollin a reverse face job.
2.13 The Astrologer
2.14 Echo of Yesterday

I completed Season 2 this past weekend. Here are all recently viewed episodes with some comments, followed by my Season 2 Top Ten:
2.15 The Photographer
2.16 The Spy
2.17 A Game of Chess
2.18 The Emerald – William “Slithers” Smithers returns! Naturally, I loved every second of this one.
2.19 The Condemned – interesting episode in regard to straying from the formula, which is always a shock to me at first, but then instantly intriguing.
2.20 The Counterfeiter – oh yes, this is a new favorite. I found this episode really fascinating, especially the concept of counterfeiting pills, a racket that I didn’t know about but that makes sense. Best of all was Edmond O’Brien’s performance as the craggy and desperately disoriented counterfeiter. He was such a fine actor and he really sold the character well. EXCELLENT episode!
2.21 The Town – another stray from the formula that was interesting, yet I must admit, I found this one a bit difficult to follow and by the time it was over, I still wasn’t sure what the hell had just happened. I watched it again and I was able to figure it out a bit more, but it still wasn’t crystalline clear to my brain. Good episode anyway.
2.22 The Killing – another fascinating pseudo-ghost tale that reminded me of Zubrovnik’s Ghost. Clever staging and a satisfying finale.
2.23 The Phoenix
2.24 Trial by Fury – this is the only episode of the season that I felt was a bit boring, though it had its moments. I don’t think it’s the fault of the episode necessarily though. I tend to get bored in stories set in prison camps. REALLY bored.
2.25 Recovery – Another highlight of the season with an intriguing plot and a great villainous performance from Bradford Dillman. A fine way to end season 2.
Overall, it was a great season, and I noticed how the MI theme was used more often in the action of the show, usually during the finale. There were some awesome theme variations and I look forward to hearing more in Season 3.

Both parts of "The Contender" last 45 minutes instead of 50 minutes.

It's not cut. The story makes sense and there are no odd, abrupt cuts or out of context dialogue.
Jim is right. The story makes sense even with that 45 minutes format.
I think there are additional scenes with Robert Conrad as the coach which don't disrupt the plot.
