Have to agree with Kev. I'm not even sure we have made any progress from last season. The football may be prettier, but I don't think we are any better off in terms of league finish. We won't win the Europa League either. Very disappointing overall.

And to make matters worse, I have a bad feeling that the Mancs will get past Madrid in the Champs League..

I was reading something on the BBC where Steven Gerrard said he doesn't think Liverpool will win the Premier League during his career. I was surprised to learn they hadn't won the league since 1990.

Indeed. They appear to be replicating the same barren spell Manchester United went through before their past 20 years of dominance. Utd went 24 years without a title win and stood by and watched Liverpool dominate all around them. Now, history is happening in reverse.

Even Leeds has won it more recently

VP

It was actually 26 years they went without winning it. '67 then not until '93. But you're right otherwise, we may well go past that.

Champions League action today! Real Madrid-Manchester United and Shakhtar Donetsk-Borussia Dortmund.

In looking over the npower (groan) Championship table, I was stunned to see Wolverhampton at 21st place--hovering right above yet another relegation! Is it common for Premier League perennials to free fall like that? Even beleaguered Blackburn is holding steady at eighth place.

>>>>>>Is it common for Premier League perennials to free fall like that?>>>>>>>>

It's certainly become more commonplace in more recent times, when teams started spending way beyond their means chasing the title and European glory.
Tall Guy's beloved Leeds are a classic example of a team banking on continued Euro glory shooting themselves in both feet!
While the BIG MONEY has added greatly to the English game, it's also been a curse for many teams.

VP knows of what he speaks. When I was playing football as a kid in the 1970s, you took it for granted that teams like Coventry, Wolves, Derby and Ipswich would be in the top flight. Other teams that made an appearence included Luton (now non-league!) and Carlisle (now League One like Coventry - the old third division). There's so much money available to Premier League clubs nowadays it makes it largely self-perpetuating and difficult to break into. Thankfully, not impossible (see Swansea and Norwich).

Ten years ago, Leeds were in the Champions League semi-final. Since then we've had three seasons in the third division - a level that we've NEVER played at before, as a result of the previous regime's profligacy. Our budgeting model (including overspending on players) depended on continued Champions League involvement, which of course didn't happen, and at the very least should serve as a salutory lesson for any other club owners or chairmen who are stupid enough to allow this to cross their minds.

The mancs always seem to get the easier home leg second whenever they play difficult Euro sides.

Love to see them lose at home second leg. Would be funny. When do arsenal get spanked by Dortmund or Munich or whoever it is? He's usually anonymous against better opposition nut I'd love to see Walcott not get a touch and them get absolutely tanked and taught a lesson. Might shut up all the Walcott-should-be-england's-first-choice-striker brigade!!

As pointed out by Stewart Robson: "he is an athletics runner in football boots."

Quote from Brendan Rodgers after last nights dismal 2-0 defeat to Zenit:

"We're very disappointed to have lost the game. After that opening spell, when they had too much space, I thought it was a near-on perfect away performance".

He doesn't half talk too much crap. And he forgot to mention we conceded 2 goals in that 'perfect' away performance.

We have zero chance of turning it around in the 2nd leg.

Ive noticed this more and more lately Thomas - Managers keeping a straight face and talking up their team's performance after an abysmal showing.

Allardyce is usually quite blunt with his post-match assessment but even he keeps tossing out total bullshit more recently.

Im not quite sure yet who this is supposed to fool?

Supporters see for their own eyes whether it was any good or not.

Is it for the benefit of dumb but rich owners who dont know football, to protect the manager's jobs?

Is it for the press people? Because theyre also clever enough to work out what theyve seen.

Scary that this phenomenon seems to be getting more prevalent and more commonplace.

Allardyce and Rogers sure arent the only two. Pulis is another who sees two games. Usually he is whingeing when his team have had a taste of their own medicine. Wenger for sure is delusional about arsenal performances. Quite a few more.

Thank you - we'll need it!

Yes - shame he didn't come out when he was still with us. I'd have been fascinated to see the reaction on the terraces. That said, he was never a big player for us. If Sam Byram, Aidy White or another home grown player made the same announcement I think there'd be 99% support and 1% disgust - and I think it'd be at least the same at any ground in the country.

Nice one Blackburn, ta-ta Arsene!

Liverpool 4 Swansea City 0 (EDIT: 5-0 in the 78 minute)

Also ouch.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/21438902

It seems like both clubs are hurt by Rodgers' departure. I really thought Swansea City were up-and-comers and Liverpool, well, top ten in the table. It's strange to see, that's for sure.

Yeah, 5-0 to LFC, which makes the home defeat to West Brom on Monday night even more galling!!
If we could have won that home banker we would be above Everton on goal diff and breathing down the necks of Arsenal and Tottenham!! We're a right Jekyl and Hyde team at the moment!
Football really pi$$es me off sometimes!! frown

Ouch indeed. No surprise - no Leeds player would even get into the City squad - but still a bit galling to lose such a soft penalty when it could still have been a contest.

Anyway, City for the cup, or 'pool. ABU.
