I came across this very eclectic lady's stuff about two years ago. She covers the ground from pop to classical violin concertos.

Here's her website, keep your speakers on:

http://www.sophiesolomon.com/

She's just branching into film-scoring now with a documentary on Russia by the way.

Ayla? Named after Jean Auel's Earths Children novels by any chance Holly?cool

p.s. Both Thor and myself are big Pink Floyd fans ( though I'd argue that Thor is the BIGGEST PF fan here )

Yes indeed, Timmer. I began reading the Earth's Children novels in elementary school. From that point, I knew that if I was ever blessed to have a daughter, I would name her "Ayla Keilani."

*Ayla* (per the Turkish definition: "Circle of light around the sun/moon") *Keilani* (kay-ee-LAH-nee is of Hawaiian origin: its meaning is "glorious chief;" and Keilana [a varient] means "glory) *Mitchell*.

p.s. Both Thor and myself are big Pink Floyd fans ( though I'd argue that Thor is the BIGGEST PF fan here )

Hey, I did not know that?!? I've been listening to PF since, well, I can remember...Hee!

Ayla is a lovely name, and thanks for the background meanings.

I read the books many years ago ( well, up until The Mammoth hunters ), what a shame the film version of Clan of The Cave Bear was so shoddy and with an extremely poor synth score by Silvestri too.

If you go back to page 2 of this thread, you'll see that I went through my entire PF collection chronologically, starting with PIPER AT THE GATES OF DAWN on April 23, 2008 and ending on page 3 with Roger Waters' opera CA IRA on June 24, 2008.

Chico, eh? I'm afraid I'm only familiar with him through his score for Polanski's REPULSION...:

http://www.filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=2133&forumID=1&archive=1

I kinda liked his music there.
