Another great Yankee pitching effort being wasted by this team's impotence at the plate.

Get set for the Tigers to deliver the death blow. All they need is one run, and they have this game won.

Fielder doesn't come through for them. Yankees have a chance if they get a DP grounder.

Young does what A-Rod was incapable of doing last night (making contact) and the Tigers have the only run they will need.

If the TIgers get another run, they can at least thank the second base umpire for an absolutely garbage call.

Yep, absolute highway robbery by the umpire costs them there.

The Tiger radio broadcasters said of that play, "We have watched the play 18 times and the runner was further from the bag each time we watch it." Of course a 3-0 lead is not safe if Valverde is anywhere near the mound.

You won't have to worry about that, Leyland already said Valverde won't be used for Game 2.

I'll be surprised if he pitches again in this series.

A-rod keeps the game alive for the Yankees.

The Yankee season is over. What remains is going through the motions. Maybe they'll get lucky and steal one game, but this team is dead beyond all hope of repair.

Coke resurects himself with that 9th inning. Verlander pitches Tuesday against Hughes

Girardi is having an absolute meltdown in his postgame press conference, coming out for replay on all possible areas.

Rodriguez-Swisher-Granderson-Cano. 12 for 107. A batting average of .112 collectively.

One needs to credit the pitching they have been trying to hit. The Tigers starters have been amazing since late in the regular season.

True, I don't deny the credit where it's due but when this level of ineptitude is consistent with all of the Baltimore starters and the Detroit pitchers and is not simply confied to a staff ace, then you are dealing with some fundamental problems at the plate these hitters who had been on tears through September (Cano in particular) are demonstrating and that speaks to their own inability to read pitches properly or make necessary adjustments.

The Tigers hitting was supposed to crush everyone so said the experts at the start of the season. Avila, Boesch, Raeburn, and Perralta all had below expectations years in the batters box. Young had a bad first half. Only Austin Jackson, Miggy and Prince carried the team for much of the year. Everyone was baffled when journeyman pitchers shut down the Tiger's offense. Baltimore pitching gave the Tigers fits this year too.

Tigers starting pitching maybe the best the team has had since 68 or84.
