Tomorrow's World was a long-running BBC television series, showcasing new (and often wacky) developments in the world of science and technology. Here's how they featured the colour restoration work for The Daemons.

Is Spearhead from Space supposed to have an easter egg? According to the Doctor Who World site, it does. Whatever the case, I can't summon it on my R1 DVD of same.

Spearhead from Space

Unused Third Doctor Title Sequence

On the main menu, with "Play All" highlighted, hit the left arrow and the Doctor Who logo at the top left of the main menu page becomes illuminated. Hit select and you'll get a set of unused 3rd Doctor titles.

Thanks for that.

On a non-Pertwee note: there are two easter eggs on Brain of Morbius. The one not listed on dwwa.net can be found by going to episode selection and clicking to the left of the Main Menu icon on the bottom of the screen. smile

I only own both "About Time 2" and "About Time 3" because of the continuity: the late Troughton era announces Pertwee's time and the two men responsible are producer Derrick Sherwin and script editor Terrance Dicks.
Good news, for Pertwee's aficionados, the DVD of "The Time Monster" is scheduled for the American market on July 6th, 2010.
We will appreciate a Pertwee vintage without two Bakers.

I just received vols 1 and 2 in the mail today--must have the complete set and all that...

You could refresh my memory with some screen caps of the most-fetching Katy Manning--just not the infamous "Dalek" picture, after all this is a family show!

Oh, and I'll definitely be getting The Time Monster, seeing as Ingrid Pitt is also in it!

Actually, my intent is to procure all the Pertwee...

Good luck with that one.
Hopefully, something can be done about Episode 1 of Invasion of the Dinosaurs (aka Invasion)

Make that "all available" Pertwee.

The 625-line colour PAL transmission master videotapes for the serial were scheduled to be wiped and reused, but only Episode 1 was erased. The serial remained incomplete in the BBC Archives until 1983, when a monochrome print of Episode 1 was found and returned. All Pertwee episodes of Doctor Who now exist in the Archives, albeit some only in black and white. It had been rumoured that this episode was wiped because it was mixed up with an episode of the Patrick Troughton serial The Invasion, though this is almost certainly untrue as The Invasion had already been wiped when Invasion of the Dinosaurs was first transmitted. In addition, the procedure for disposing of older episodes would have made such a mix-up highly unlikely.
This is the last episode that does not exist in its original form. However, fan Ian Levine has assembled an unofficial team to recolourise this black-and-white episode, and work by the fans continues in 2009.
The surviving film recording of Episode 1 is the only telerecording of a Season 11 episode known to exist.
A black-and-white film print exists of the film sequences from part one. This includes one scene of a scared scavenger stealing money from a dead milkman's satchel omitted from the transmitted version, this would have been part of the deserted London montage. The black-and-white prints were used as practice for the film editor to make cuts before they cut the colour negatives.
Colour 35 mm film sequences from Episode five also exist.
Episode 3's first edit (also known in the BBC as a 71 edit) also exists, without sound effects or music on the soundtrack.

Although the PAL mastertapes had been wiped NTSC copies were returned to the BBC from TV Ontario in Canada in 1983.
Most USA telecasts have the opening four UNIT-oriented episodes condensed to two, making it a four-part story or, quite often, a 90-minute feature[citation needed].
This story was released with Colony in Space in a VHS tin box set, The Master, in 2001. A new transfer was made from the converted NTSC to PAL videotapes but no restoration work was carried out for this release. Episode 6 also exists as a low band PAL b/w 625 line broadcast standard videotape recording, made for training purposes by the BBC, this was found in 1987. In 1993 this was combined with the colour signal from the converted 525 line NTSC broadcast standard copy and has been screened on UK satellite channel UK Gold.

That's fascinating stuff. I only have one Pertwee so far--Spearhead from Space--and have read that several of the Pertwee stories were in rough shape. When I read what the restoration team's work entails, I'm amazed at how well they restore these damaged materials.
