TO SOLIUM-Well that was part of the underlining drift of the story, that these money making businessmen took the creature from Ireland to another land and MAMA wants baby back, so the action of these 2 men while not directly, lead to the chaos from Ireland to London and everything in between. A theme that has it's similar elements from past films like KING KONG-33- THE MUMMY SERIES from the 40's, you steal , you pay. Sadly though so many people who don't deserve to pay, pay as well.

QUIZ QUESTION-What do you notice about GORGO that is a bit different then most big monster films.

Question: Was Gorgo the name of the monster or the name they gave the species? They called the baby Gorgo as if that was its given "name" (like we give pets names.) with no knowledge another one existed. So whats mama's name? confused

The film mentions that the islanders had the legend of "Ogra", which the carnival guys transposed into GORGO. Mama was MRS. GORGO wink

To Solium.
I haven't seen the film in quite a long while. I seem to remember that when the Americans are talking to a scientist, the latter opens a book to show the size of the baby versus Big Mama. Doesn't he mention a species name in that scene?????

Like I said it's been a really long time so I could be misremembering.

no species is mentioned. There is a real dinosaur called GORGOSAURUS, but it doesn't resemble the film animals.

There usually is some romantic affair going on in so many of the Scifi films of that type in the 50's and 60's. But if you notice in GORGO EXCEPT FOR THE CROWD SEQUENCES WHERE THERE IS PANIC AND A 30 SECOND SCENE OF A FEMALE REPORTER WITH GLASSES ON , THERE ARE NO WOMAN.

One will also notice that in LOURIE'S THE GIANT BEHEMOTH-59- again the romance is left out and except for a lady early on in the film and some extras it is again all male. However in BEAST FROM 20,000 FATHOMS-53, there is some romantic interest.

My God, I used to love my Auroras.

Just looking at that box art for Gorgo--I was 10 years old again...

If there was a winkie smile with a nostalgic tear, I'd put it here. But smile will have to do.

All his models are done in the Aurora spirit. Right down to box art and color instructions. The Gorgo base was made to purposely resemble the Aurora Godzilla base.

It's very nice stuff.

I find the posing of Gorgo very reminiscent of the Prehistoric Scenes Allosaurus.

The Kin-Goji suit was my favorite. It was so sool that that's what Aurora used for their design. For the old Godzilla kit, I mean.

SOLIUM:

I'm still hoping one of the Japanese toy companies that crank out the Godzillas will see the Monarch Gorgo and decide to release a preassembled Gorgo.

That would be cool! Some model companies are releasing their model kits as pre-paints as well. (Moebius and Pegasus) Unfortunately Monarch is not one of them.
