According to Doctor Who Magazine, David Tennant will be the only returning Doctor. The new issue (#460) confirms that no other classic Doctors will be back.
The mag states: “Although David Tennant has returned to his role of the Tenth Doctor, the other old Doctors will not be taking part.”
They confirm earlier reports that Christopher Eccleston was initially approached to reprise his role, but was unable to do so.
Citing an earlier quote from Steven Moffat: “It is important you don’t turn it into a fanfest. We can’t make this all about looking backwards. It’s actually got to be the start of a new story.”
They also report that filming on the 50th is near completion, with production on 2013 Christmas Special “and possibly further episodes” starting after Matt Smith works on the film How to Catch a Monster.

Thanks for the reply. That's what I suspected. The commercial breaks in the US are hideous. Abrupt and usually right in the middle of the action. According to Wiki an average episode run time is around 45 minutes. If this is the case then at least we are seeing the entire episode.
Yes, it's quite curious...the American way...I was there for two weeks and watched a bit - could not get a grasp at all of the extraordinary number of breaks...I mean, often a commercial break even at the end of the show and before the closing credits?? Very curious! Good money I guess, but damned annoying...and the practise of beginning one show before the previous one had even ended properly??? That's barmy, especially when it's a movie and the following programme is an "encore presentation" of the same movie...so - I'm sat there watching the opening credits of a movie on one half of the screen, and the closing credits of the same movie on the other??? Nuts...!!!
BBC have never shown commercials...ever (it is almost entirely publicly funded - we are forced to pay a fee every year if we own a TV...there is some product placement, but not much). If there is occasionally a small scheduled break between progs, it is filled with a news bulletin/weather forecast. The main advertising channel - ITV - shows commercials mostly between programmes, but also some during scheduled breaks...a 45-minute show may still take an hour to broadcast, but there willl be 2 or 3 short commercial breaks...the main bulk of them are shown between progs.

Filming on Doctor Who’s historic 50th anniversary special has wrapped.
Producer Marcus Wilson wrote on Twitter earlier: “Thank you to an amazing dedicated & talented cast and crew. That’s a wrap on the anniversary – it will be special!”
Fillming began on 2 April 2013, a longer shoot than usual, suggesting the episode is lengthier than previous reports claimed.
Now the wait to see the end result in November continues…

Appreciate the feedback. Always interested in learning how things are done elsewhere. Yes, America is the king of over commercialization. I guess it works or they wouldn't do it. But I personally find it annoying, offensive and I'm so close to giving up on broadcast television altogether. I have no idea why they bother showing opening or ending credits when you can't even read them. If I wasn't a sports fan I think I would get rid of cable and just stream programs or get them on disc.
I think the Doctor Who Christmas Specials are the only programs they show with limited commercial breaks. Of course we have BBC (Where Doctor Who was shown uninterrupted in the 70's) But people generally don't like public funded television. Thus it gets maybe 1 percent of the national budget if that. The rest relies on public donations.

Ever since Hurt was snapped in costume back in April there has been a big rumour circulating claiming that he is playing the role of the “Forgotten Doctor,” one that was “lost” in the Time War between the 8th and 9th incarnation.
His role essentially is a way of filling the void left by Chris Eccleston who was unable to return.
Hurt’s recent comments here could corroborate this rumour, but as ever, we’ll just have to wait and see.
