amazing how Sky can drum up interest in the fixtures so it sounds like something really special "Only three days to go before the fixtures are announced" etc - even interviewing the man responsible for working out who cant play who on certain days, etc. All bollocks really. when you think about it, you know the other 19 teams, home and away, so you know who you're playing, its just a matter of when. From a west ham point of view, we look for one thing only first: If we're in the shit come the end of the season, what's our final run-in like?? Two or three weaker opposition and a season of garbage can be rescued at the 11th hour. This season it seems we play Tottscum and then Man City final day. Thats us relegated then. Oh and we finally signed andy Carroll today for about £15m ish. Hopefully next season we will actually decide to put a cross or two in for him and finally, unashamedly, play to his strengths.

Forlan is a phenomenal striker who, weirdly, did not show his potential while at United. But looked a better player the moment they sold him. Jim, For british football fans - in most cases - Confed Cup falls into the category with African Nations Cup and international friendlies and youth under 21- tournaments - if its the close season and we're on holiday we might watch a match in a bar - you get your fix of sun and football - but, when at home, I try - not easy coz Im still posting - but try to switch off from football till August. I dont know how Kev, Thomas and TG feel - they may be on holiday?? - but its a weird thing, we miss it and yet we're glad to have a break from the flash, arrogant footballers and the out of control relentless money-making juggernaut that is football today. That said I did hear talk that Spain could be double figures so dont think 10 was totally unexpected. I saw a little of Brazil the night before and Neymar and Hulk looked to be playing very well.

Yes, I often go on holiday with those two reprobates. Bill - you've summed it up perfectly. In odd-numbered years there's simply no point in football until (a) the next England qualifiers, or (b) Leeds's pre-season friendlies, whichever come first. It's the cricket season, dammit!

I live in "sun and fun" land--southern Florida-- so I am all for watching these other tournaments. If you "Englanders" would focus on footie 24/7 like those other countries maybe you wouldn't get bounced from tournaments so quickly and your national team would win something someday. We have the Gold Cup here in July, though your beloved BBC never sees fit to cover that, thus confirming your "Brits on Holiday" thesis. As for Forlan, he had some fine years with Atletico Madrid and he has proven to be an excellent international player. I believe yesterday was his 100th cap. Suarez was a non-factor in the win, by the way.

Oddly enough, I was going to post something similar over here, Kev. I have become increasingly bored and disinterested when dipping into the main forum and find so few subjects even raise an eyebrow. If there's a western heading, or a 60s/ 70s thriller, western or war film, or a CD release involving said genres - I will read it - but it seems to be endless bollocks about man of steel, zombies, other overrated superhero films and scores, Zimmer for and against, etc etc. Yawn. bewildered Old man syndrome. Dont understand the excitement over run-of-the-mill scoring we've heard before. More fun over here, and the people are nicer. we get to talk football, sopranos, spartacus, quotes, and guess chickenhearted's japanese film posters - its great. And there's humour.

Majorca nice and a bit unfairly sneered at. Ive always liked it. Had about six holidays there including my first Pontinental when i was a kid when abroad holidays were like going to the far side of the sun. And a later one with 18 to 30 - unfortunately all the women were 18-30 stone!! So you will get your fix of sun and football then Thomas? One time i did pre-season games - my fave was always a day out at Bournemouth every season - used to go early, book a hotel, sunbathe on the beach with hammers crew, chat up french hotel girls and make a break of it - fabulous!!

you need to read back a few posts, Juan, various stages of Confed Cup have had Jim banging the drum and carrying the flag while us Englander's narrow field of vision have all been discussed. suspect a foregone conclusion for the final. and if Spain ticki-tacki is victorious over Neymar and Hulk and 9 rather ordinary others, then we may even see Mr Watt's spaneesh man back to taunt us....
