Premier League fixtures for 2013-2014 season unveiled today. Liverpool at home to Stoke on the first weekend. I always like a home fixture first game.

I'll let TG post The Championship fixtureswink

amazing how Sky can drum up interest in the fixtures so it sounds like something really special "Only three days to go before the fixtures are announced" etc - even interviewing the man responsible for working out who cant play who on certain days, etc.

All bollocks really.

when you think about it, you know the other 19 teams, home and away, so you know who you're playing, its just a matter of when.

From a west ham point of view, we look for one thing only first: If we're in the shit come the end of the season, what's our final run-in like?? Two or three weaker opposition and a season of garbage can be rescued at the 11th hour.

This season it seems we play Tottscum and then Man City final day.

Thats us relegated then.

Oh and we finally signed andy Carroll today for about £15m ish.

Hopefully next season we will actually decide to put a cross or two in for him and finally, unashamedly, play to his strengths.

How about that Italy-Japan Confederations Cup match today? Exciting stuff though Buffon's yellow card shouldn't have been given. I am so tired of penalties being given for quality defensive plays.

Way to go, Azzurri!

So what happened to the £40m Liverpool spent on Andy and his slick ponytail?

Oh, here's that goal he scored against Sweden. Andy Carroll rules!

Sorry for the hippin' and a-hoppin' in the video; apparently that's what the kids like these days.

Spain 10 Tahiti 0 Yaaaaawn.

Uruguay 2 Nigeria 1 An entertaining game with a booming Diego Forlan goal that proved to be the winner. Forlan gets better as he gets older whereas poor Luis Suarez barely registered in this match.

Forlan is a phenomenal striker who, weirdly, did not show his potential while at United. But looked a better player the moment they sold him.

Jim, For british football fans - in most cases - Confed Cup falls into the category with African Nations Cup and international friendlies and youth under 21- tournaments - if its the close season and we're on holiday we might watch a match in a bar - you get your fix of sun and football - but, when at home, I try - not easy coz Im still posting - but try to switch off from football till August. I dont know how Kev, Thomas and TG feel - they may be on holiday?? - but its a weird thing, we miss it and yet we're glad to have a break from the flash, arrogant footballers and the out of control relentless money-making juggernaut that is football today.

That said I did hear talk that Spain could be double figures so dont think 10 was totally unexpected. I saw a little of Brazil the night before and Neymar and Hulk looked to be playing very well.

Yes, I often go on holiday with those two reprobates.

Bill - you've summed it up perfectly. In odd-numbered years there's simply no point in football until (a) the next England qualifiers, or (b) Leeds's pre-season friendlies, whichever come first. It's the cricket season, dammit!

I live in "sun and fun" land--southern Florida-- so I am all for watching these other tournaments. If you "Englanders" would focus on footie 24/7 like those other countries maybe you wouldn't get bounced from tournaments so quickly and your national team would win something someday. big grin

We have the Gold Cup here in July, though your beloved BBC never sees fit to cover that, thus confirming your "Brits on Holiday" thesis.

As for Forlan, he had some fine years with Atletico Madrid and he has proven to be an excellent international player. I believe yesterday was his 100th cap. Suarez was a non-factor in the win, by the way.

Let's just say it's like every other international tournament in that England will never win it. big grin

"I dont know how Kev, Thomas and TG feel - they may be on holiday??"
-------------------------------
Yep, been in Croatia for the past two weeks (beautiful, unspoilt, but very VERY HOT!!!)
TG didn't fit in the suitcase (legs kept sticking out!!) smile
I'm quite enjoying the break from footie at the mo.
Last thing I watched was that Norway slaughter of those poor young England bucks under the ever clueless Stu Pearce before we went away frown
LFC signings haven't really excited me that much cos I don't know much about them, but then some of our best players of recent times were unknown to me at the time (Hyppia, Alonso, Garcia, even Suarez to a lesser extent). We'll see.
Those missing millions from the Carroll deal was already stolen money we got - 50 million!!! - from Chelski for the broken Torres. What comes round yah yah yah.
This is the only thread I bother to read and post on around here now. I've become quite bored trying to stimulate chat over on the other side. A bit too much 'divorced from reality' silliness over there these days for me.

Oddly enough, I was going to post something similar over here, Kev.

I have become increasingly bored and disinterested when dipping into the main forum and find so few subjects even raise an eyebrow. If there's a western heading, or a 60s/ 70s thriller, western or war film, or a CD release involving said genres - I will read it - but it seems to be endless bollocks about man of steel, zombies, other overrated superhero films and scores, Zimmer for and against, etc etc. Yawn.

bewildered Old man syndrome. Dont understand the excitement over run-of-the-mill scoring we've heard before.

More fun over here, and the people are nicer.

we get to talk football, sopranos, spartacus, quotes, and guess chickenhearted's japanese film posters - its great. And there's humour.

I can't speak for Kev, but I'm not going on holiday with TG ever again. The man's a liability. God knows where hes ended up...wink

I haven't been on holiday, I've just been at our caravan up the coast from where I live for a few days. I am going to Majorca for a week in August, hoping to see the team play a pre-season friendly at the Son Moix when I'm there. Been to see them play a few times, sadly this season they were relegated from La Liga. Amunt Mallorca!!

I feel the same about you guys about the 'other side' here. Nothing interests me much there anymore, I've found myself just posting on the occasional John Barry related thread nowadays. As Kev and Bill eloquently put it, most of the rest is boring silliness.

I'll keep sticking my oar in this thread thoughsmile

Majorca nice and a bit unfairly sneered at.
Ive always liked it. Had about six holidays there including my first Pontinental when i was a kid when abroad holidays were like going to the far side of the sun. And a later one with 18 to 30 - unfortunately all the women were 18-30 stone!!

So you will get your fix of sun and football then Thomas? One time i did pre-season games - my fave was always a day out at Bournemouth every season - used to go early, book a hotel, sunbathe on the beach with hammers crew, chat up french hotel girls and make a break of it - fabulous!!

Clearly you had the same experience of Club 18-30 as I did, Bill!

Yeah we go to Majorca every couple of years. I like it there, the people are nice and the resorts are good. Just steer clear of Magaluf, can't be bothered with that.

I've been a few times later in the summer in September, and I've seen RCD Mallorca play Madrid, Sociedad and de La Coruna in League games. This will be the first I've seen them pre-season, though I'm still looking forward to it. As I said, pity they were relegated!

Me and the missus went to Majorca this past April (Cala d'or) for a week and bagged a really hot, sunny week. It is a very nice place, although most of our usual Europe destinations have lost that Euro bargain quality, due to the rubbish pound exchange rate and the rising costs of everything everywhere! That was the bonus about Croatia, their Kuna went a lot further and got you much more smile
Apart from posting new topics that interest me (but no one else it seems) and reporting my new John Scott fix, there ain't much else to do on t'other side (it's got so bad, my favourite poster is Yor who at least makes me howl).
Oh look, there's a footy game kicking off in a mo (Spain v Nigeria). I'm off!

Incredibly, my local team here Cliftonville (we won the league last season!) have been drawn against Celtic in the 2nd Qualifying Round for next season's Champions League. Fantastic draw for us, that'll be me off to Celtic Park thensmile

Changing the topic from all that Premier stuff to the Confederation Cup.

Maybe someone it is interested in the incredible semifinals games on Wednesday and Thursday:

Italy - Spain

Brazil - Uruguay

Enjoy these games.

I'm sure the corporate bigwigs will get the Spain-Brazil match they have counted so heavily on getting.

you need to read back a few posts, Juan, various stages of Confed Cup have had Jim banging the drum and carrying the flag while us Englander's narrow field of vision have all been discussed.

suspect a foregone conclusion for the final.

and if Spain ticki-tacki is victorious over Neymar and Hulk and 9 rather ordinary others, then we may even see Mr Watt's spaneesh man back to taunt us....
