The show's latter seasons contain fewer episodes that are worth watching, but S7 I will enjoy for the memorable episode where Mike breaks Archie's chair. And Season eight's EDITH'S COUSIN LIZ. YIPPPP-EEEEE! Two great ones!! Along with The Odd Couple and The Honeymooners, All in the Family is in my sitcom Triple Crown. One of the things which always knocks me out about "Cousin Liz" is that the Emmy-winning script is by Weiskopf and Schiller who spent most of their earlier career writing for Lucy, before going to Maude and then AITF. Nothing wrong with Lucy, just that it couldn't be more different from Cousin Liz. And "Archie's Chair" is filled with wonderful moments, especially nice because all the cast members get to have at least one. I read an interview with Norman Lear where he was asked if his father thought that way about his chair. Lear said he didn't know, but that was how HE thought about his father's chair. Another highlight of the 7th season (Cousin Liz was the 8th, but let's not count our Shout chickens yet) is "Archie's Brief Encounter", a terrific character piece that adds some new dimension to Archie and Edith. The 7th and 8th seasons in general exchanged controversies for character studies, and the results were sometimes outstanding and sometimes less so. When they worked, however, they were riveting, and "Archie's Brief Encounter" was one of my favorites. For those who prefer the early years, "Archie the Liberal" is a delightful throwback. Very funny, especially seeing Archie try to be gracious. Echoes of "Sammy's Visit" of course, but in some ways, more sharply written and acted than its more famous ancestor.

Great news about All in the Family!! I just hope Shout ensures that the episodes are uncut. If we've waited 3 years for butchered episodes a la Rhoda, I'll march into Shout's offices and have a fit.

If- IF ONLY- we get seasons 7 and 8 of AITF, I can be happy. I want season 9, but it was the beginning of "The Era of Stephanie", and the series had pretty much run it's course. I could live without it.

Five long years of waiting finally at an end with the arrival of "Dragnet" S2 today at last! First thing I watched was the 1966 pilot movie that relaunched the series (though not aired until 1969), and it is a very well-done effort.

The Mary Tyler Moore Show after nine years and two long drought periods FINALLY joins the ranks of the completed series on DVD. http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Mary-Tyler-Moore-Season-7/14030 YAY!!! Thanks for the notice, EP! And the finale episode will include the curtain call! How great is that?!!! Greater would be reassurance that Mary's hilarious "One For My Baby" is in the episode its supposed to be in. Thank goodness "Tipperary" is in the public domain at least!

Universal announces the S1 release of "The Bionic Woman" on October 19. HOWEVER......look at what the specs say. "Universal's announcement this morning describes a DVD release with a video aspect ratio of "Anamorphic Widescreen (1.78:1)". If this is true and not an error, then I would like to ask what kind of morons are in charge at Universal to do something like this???????? http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Bionic-Woman-Season-1/14082 This is not a funny joke, Eric. Now you just stop making stuff up. Oh...you're not making it up. Has Universal lost its collective mind?! As the disappointed owner of WB's Kung Fu Season 1, I will never again watch a full frame classic TV show mutated into pseudo-widescreen which is as hurtful to the original format as panning & scanning is murderous to 2.35:1 cinema. This is just outrageously stupid. I wanna form a pitchfork mob! EDIT - I just saw the other thread indicating that the aspect ratio text was an error. I'll call off the midgets with cannons and the old men with pitchforks and other pointy weapons. I was so ready for a mob party, dammit.
