Depends....if you are Self-Employed (even if it's not your "main job") then yes you have to file Tax Returns.
For everyone else, we have a system that works most of the time called "PAYE" (Pay As You Earn), whereby an amount of tax - depending on your salary - is deducted from your pay packet each month along with National Insurance and Pension contributions.
There are occasonal cock-ups whereby you are charged too much tax and have to claim it back, or are charged too little and sujected to a "Claw-Back", but it works 99.99% of the time.
So nice. So much more civilized than our annual nail-biting.

Dave best thing i ever did was just dump relevant paperwork throughout the year into a tray and pay an accountant to sort. Heaven !

Seems like a good topic to ask Brits if this is true. (The limerick topic wasn't a good place to ask my question.)
Are there any FSM board members from the UK who are female? I can't find any. If there are not any, our Brit Buddies need to start spreading the joy of film scores to their sisters, moms, daughters, wives, aunts, cousins, partners, etc. It is hard to believe that the only lovers of film scores in the UK are men.
Great query joan. I have to believe there are UK females who love film music.
In the words of my better-half: There are a lot of long-suffering wives ....
That said, I introduced her to film music shortly after we first dated and she has, to a large extent, accepted a lot of the soundtrack music I've acquired. From the very early days, her favourite score has been John Barry's The Lion in Winter (1968) but that's partly because her small record collection at that time consisted almost entirely of early English music (e.g. Byrd).
As for contributing to the board, though, I've never seen her show much interest (I do invite her to read some threads/postings - such as this one) and I could ask her to reply to you re: any query you wish to raise. If it's to do with film music you may find any reply limited, but on other subjects I'm sure she would be happy to converse!

No girls from uk but we do have some old women!! 
Over the years ive had girlfriends who showed an interest, liked morricone stuff i played them etc. But never met a serious girl soundtrack fan in England. Not even in the old soundtrack LP shops.

Just as an aside, a few years back I was at a film music concert at the Albert Hall, sat high up, and the only others in my row were a youngish couple, about fifteen or twenty seats along from me. She was rapt, leaning forward on the balcony railing; he looked less interested. It was as though coming to the concert was a present for her, and he was just along as her plus-one. At one point the presenter announced the next piece to be played would be some major John Williams piece (I forget what), and she did a little jig of pleasure in her seat, with that sort of 'lightly shaking balled-up fists in front of you' sort of gesture and a huge beaming grin.
So, y'know, there's probably her ... somewhere.
