MINISTRY OF FEAR (1944) WHILE THE CITY SLEEPS (1956) THE MAGNIFICENT AMBERSONS (1942) MACBETH (1948) CHIMES AT MIDNIGHT (1965) FILMING OTHELLO (1978) LOS OLVIDADOS (1950) SUBIDA AL CIELO (1952) EL - THIS STRANGE PASSION (1953) THE CRIMINAL LIFE OF ARCHIBALDO DE LA CRUZ (1955) NAZARIN (1959) LETTER FROM AN UNKNOWN WOMAN (1948) CAUGHT (1949) THE RECKLESS MOMENT (1949) FIVE GRAVES TO CAIRO (1943) PHANTOM LADY (1944) THE DARK MIRROR (1946) CRY OF THE CITY (1948) GREED (1924) THE MERRY WIDOW (1925) THE WEDDING MARCH (1928) BEGGARS OF LIFE (1928) RUTHLESS (1948) THE MASK OF DIMITRIOS (1944) THE LUSTY MEN (1952) THE HARDER THEY FALL (1956) THE BREAKING POINT (1950) HE RAN ALL THE WAY (1951) THE BLUE DAHLIA (1946) OBSESSION (1949) A MAN ESCAPED (1956) BOOM! (1968) Um, why don't you get yourself a multi-region DVD player? 90% of your list is available - I own almost all of them - nice transfers, all legit. And before you say they're too expensive (the players), they can be had for under a hundred bucks. Of course, would you buy these films if they WERE available here, or is this just a list? In any case, if you love 'em you can have 'em easily. Actually, Bruce, I do own a multi-region player and did when I wrote that list. And yes I would buy the films if they were available here. I prefer a domestic release without PAL speedup if at all possible and although I did break down and get a few of the titles in non-R1 releases I'm more inclined to buy a foreign DVD if it's a film unlikely to show up in R1 - something like IT ALWAYS RAINS ON SUNDAY, for instance. Patience is a virtue apparently, though, as a good batch of these are now available (or soon to be) in R1: WHILE THE CITY SLEEPS (Warner Archive MOD release) THE MAGNIFICENT AMBERSONS (Warner release) MACBETH (Olive release) LETTER FROM AN UNKNOWN WOMAN (upcoming Olive release) FIVE GRAVES TO CAIRO (upcoming Universal/TCM release) THE MERRY WIDOW (Warner Archive MOD release) CAUGHT (upcoming Olive release) RUTHLESS (upcoming Olive release) THE HARDER THEY FALL (re-released by Columbia in a Bogart box set) THE BREAKING POINT (Warner Archive MOD release) THE BLUE DAHLIA (upcoming Universal/TCM release) In addition, MINISTRY OF FEAR, THE WEDDING MARCH, and A MAN ESCAPED are all rumored to be upcoming Criterion releases. And as a matter of fact, there are more Siodmak's in addition to CRY OF THE CITY and PHANTOM LADY that could use R1 releases and I'm going to list them now in hopes that it'll shake them loose: THE FILE ON THELMA JORDAN THE STRANGE AFFAIR OF UNCLE HARRY THE SUSPECT CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY A Siodmak that I'm very curious to see is his last French film, PIEGES, made in 1939, which stars Maurice Chevalier, Marie Dea, Erich Von Stroheim and Pierre Renoir! It's available in R2, but, alas, without English subs.

Why on earth has Chicago Hope not been released on DVD?! Or how about Providence? There is a DVD collection of the series but it is inexplicably missing many important episodes. I can understand a "best of" episode highlight DVD of a sitcom, but of a prime time drama? Give me a break man!

Now that "Cheyenne" is getting additional seasons released, and "Maverick" has started up, I'd like to see Warner Bros. release the John Russell western series "The Lawman." I'd prefer that over "Bronco" or "Sugarfoot," since I was never a big fan of either of those two.
