All the fans of "It Takes A Thief" don't have to order foreign region sets now. Looks like its coming in early 2011 from the same company giving us Ellery Queen.

I've just received S2 of Kojak from Universal Germany. The transfers and colors are much better than on the recent set from the UK!

Let us know if/when S3 is released in Germany.

Ellery Queen next week.
Final season of MTM and Season 7 of AITF, along with S4 V1 of "Gunsmoke" the following week.
Then comes S2 of "Marcus Welby".

November brings us S4 V1 of "The Fugitive" and S5 V2 of "Perry Mason."

We are told the last episodes of "Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea" will be out by year's end. S2 of "The Virginian" is coming. Word is also out that the one unreleased B/W sitcom I want on DVD, "Car 54, Where Are You?" will be coming out in 2011.

"Dragnet" S3 in December looks to be fast-tracked to completion, along with "Adam-12" in 2011. "Fugitive" and "Hawaii FIve-O" will be wrapped up. "Ironside" S4 is a go from Shout!.

What all of this boils down to is the fact that I really feel I am close to the point where I can feel totally satisfied with the state of TV on DVD and that all told, 2010 turned out to be a very good year overall.

Great topic, plenty of great replies, read through a brave few of them.

I have the Miami Vice complete collection set, as mentioned by a couple of you season 3 is awsome!.

Anyone here get Street Hawk?. I got it when it came out awhile back, great little boxset, the extras are nice too, a cool little documentry with the key cast on their memories of the show. They shed some light on how the show was made and the popularity of the show then and today.

On The Equalizer front only season one is out there right?.

There is one show I'd love to get but it's still only available on region one and thats The Beauty & The Beast series starring Ron Perlman and Linda Hamilton, would love to see that show come out over here.

Another would be Automan as well.

Well, CBS/Paramount just announced a glut of titles for November 30.

Vegas, S2 V1
Bonanza, S2 V1
Lucy Show, S3
Have Gun Will Travel, S5 V1

In each case we know we'll get a Volume 2 for each season six months or so later. CBS/Paramount never abandons a title in mid-season unlike Fox with Big Valley.

I shudder to think how old I'll be if/when CBS/Paramount releases all fourteen seasons of Bonanza.

Even older with Gunsmoke!

I can see that Gunsmoke's release schedule has been frustrating! Twenty seasons and all released in half portions? That's sadistic! At that rate you'll never see Festus!

Not that that would be a bad thing actually because as a relative newcomer to the show, I am finding that I like Gunsmoke much better as a half hour show in the earlier Chester period (plus, Amanda Blake in her youthful days was definite Yum material!), and that the hour long shows I've seen in the "best of" sets don't seem to be as well-paced by contrast. And I have to admit, I don't think too much of Festus as a viable replacement for Chester.

Yes, I prefer the B&W days and Chester. The episodes aired by Encore Westerns are the hour-long shows (season 9 or thereabouts; whenever it went to an hour) and those are more often than not, excellent. However, I never really warmed to the characters like I have the Cartwrights.

The funny thing is I have been totally unable to connect with "Bonanza" at all no matter how much I try. I think it's not just because I'm used to seeing Lorne Greene as Commander Adama too much with decidedly younger offspring than he had here, I just find myself unable to latch on to the Cartwrights in contrast to the Barkleys on "The Big Valley" which is the closest parallel to it I can think of. "Gunsmoke" and "The Virginian" by contrast play more as anthology shows with some central characters to act as an anchor and I have found them more entertaining among TV westerns.

Shame they didn't include The Untouchables S4 V1!

I'll admit I would have swapped any of those announced titles for Love Boat S3 V1, Streets Of San Francisco S3 V1 or Love American Style S2 V1!

You stated it and I must comment. big grin I love the GUNSMOKE Chester early half hour B &W eps. It was the original characters from radio and there is a gritty, heartfelt charm to them, that later expanded color seasons just didn't have. I think the shorter stories were more to the point and provocative.

I'm glad for Vega$ S2. Not enough Robert Urich content out there on dvd.

So are there "Gunsmoke People" and "Bonanza People" as there are Munsters and Addams Family contingents?

My Ellery Queen set arrived today and I just had a major dose of cold water poured over the excitement I felt as I loaded in the pilot movie. But first, the good news. The remastering is beautiful. I have never seen the episode look better. And the "Match Wits" teaser is intact as promised.

BUT, and this is a big one. The opening credits music has been altered. Instead of Bernstein's theme music which always plays over the credits of "Too Many Suspects" in every version I have seen, the producers of this set have instead substituted the NBC Mystery Movie music and as the credits end we hear the announcer's voice about "Tonight, Ellery Queen etc." that's been referenced before in regard to the first ever showing of the Ellery Queen pilot film as a Mystery Movie in place of Columbo, McCloud etc. But this Mystery Movie music and announcer's voiceover would have played over the traditional NBC Mystery Movie open with the lantern and the rotating titles of "Columbo", "McCloud" etc. While this audio is thus authentic from the original broadcast it DOES NOT BELONG OVER THE TITLE CREDITS IN PLACE OF BERNSTEIN'S THEME. The effect is very jarring and distracting especially when it fades out and we pick up Bernstein's music entering the first scene.

Now keep in mind, Bernstein's theme is not replaced on the regular episodes, it's only been improperly changed for the title credits of the pilot. The episode itself looks perfect, but this Mystery Movie open and announcer's bit belonged as a supplement of some kind (I can understand not using the original video of the lantern etc. since that would have required showing titles of shows they are not licensed to use like Columbo, McMillan And Wife, McCloud) not over the actual film's beginning.

I know I'll have to get used to this over time but its still too bad there has to be this one blemish over what otherwise looks to be a perfectly presented set.

Put me in the GUNSMOKE column. As to MUNSTERS/ADDAMS, it's a total toss up for me. Both have their moments and individual goofy charms. ADDAMS was a little drier in it's humor, yet equally silly. It also had better scores, courtesy of La Mizzy.
