Terminator 3 - Rise Of The Machines I remembered hardly anything from first viewing (approx. 5 years ago) ... but then it isn't that memorable. 4/10 I watched it nearly twice and then tossed the disc. It all seemed very stupid, poorly acted and scripted, and felt like a watered-down version of Wargames. T2 is gold, although that could've been edited down another 10 minutes. Ghost Ship - Every so often, I get the urge to watch this, thinking it's better than it really is. The one line that always gets me out of the mood happens right at the beginning, when she's dangling from the cable and shouts something like "I will NOT lose it!" Given the situation and drama, her execution of that line seemed very empty, overly contrived and too properly enunciated, and I felt "will not" was completely out of place due to the urgency. "I'm not losing it!" or "I won't lose it!" would've been far more effective and real-sounding. There's only one film I can recall where "will not" was effectively used, and that was Training Day, when Hawke says something like "That's the second time you've pulled a gun on me! There will NOT be a third!" That moment of pure clarity and conviction demanded every thought and word be expressed wholly and properly, without the use of contractions. Plus, Hawke's words matched his facial expression and eye intensity perfectly, unlike the girl in GS. Anyway, GS has a very cool opening horror sequence, the empty ship does have some nice spookiness, and things ARE rather interesting. It's just that nothing's really scary or creepy or truly intense - 7.5 Comparable films: Virus (Curtis) - 8.5 Sphere - 6.5 The Shining - 9.0 Event Horizon - 7.0 Ghost Rig - 4.5

Surprisingly, I got my shipment of the below trilogy two days after I ordered it, and we watched the first two parts earlier in the week, and watched the third this evening after a day at the beach - a nice film to unwind, relax and cuddle to. The Wilderness Family Adventure - This suffered from bad acting from everyone except Logan and "Boomer", the songs were corny, cheesy and sounded improvised the day of recording, and there was very little sense of drama and urgency to anything that happened. The story had poor flow. The score was very nice, but overdone, and sounded like it was performed by a High School band. Still, the idea was nice and there's a certain charm to the virginity of city folk making a go in the wild. Susan Shaw as Logan's wife, Sara, is sexiest in this film and glows. The little girl was annoying as hell and I kept wishing something would eat her. I did get teary-eyed whenever their dog, Crust, would come to the rescue and risk his life to ward off wolves, cougars, bears, etc. One helluva good dog! - 6.5 The Wilderness Family Adventure 2 (aka, The Further Adventures of the Wilderness Family) - This was basically the same as the first, but with a different person getting ill and a different animal annoying them. Oddly, only six months have passed (in the movie) yet the daughter, Jenny (played by a different actress) looks seven years older, whereas her brother, Toby, looks like he's aged only a year. Doesn't matter, since this new girl is 100 times better. Boomer has aged about 10 years. Sara looks awful and run down in this film. They utilized the same overused theme and cheesy, silly songs. The worst things were the obvious backdrops (that are simply hideous) for some shots looking out of and around their cabin...Yeesh! Still, it has some unique moments that were enjoyable, and I didn't fast-forward through anything. However, this film was so lackluster that we almost tossed the third installment, which would've been a huge mistake. Also, I should mention this installment is important in furthering the bond between Boomer and the Robinson family for things that happen in part 3 - 5.0 Mountain Family Robinson (part 3) - This had much better flow and rhythm than the first two installments, the acting was more solid and believable from everyone, and there's a sincere sense of drama and direness that was missing from the first two films - plus, this finally had some finesse and style. The original score and its themes are gone, and in place is a body of music which dances beautifully with the visuals, rather than merely randomly existing to suddenly get our attention - the method used in the prior films. It reminded me of material from Jaws 2 & 4, The Beastmaster, Shoot to Kill and the TV series Charlie's Angels. The score is very refined and dramatic and propels the story. The songs are nice, have decent thought put into them, and are very upbeat and positive. Picture The Carpenters singing the happy songs from Santa Claus is Coming to Town. In fact, I feel the primary song in this film was created using The Carpenters' "Sing" as a foundation. There's one scene where Sara (mom) hugs Jenny (daughter) and accidentally caresses the lower part of Jenny's young, shapely butt cheek in tight jeans, and then her middle finger roams further into her butt crack and she realizes she's in the wrong place and quickly moves her hand up - I'm surprised this wasn't edited out. Thankfully, my girlfriend commented on it, so I was able to play dumb and rewind it and pause a few times to discuss it. We had a good laugh. If you can only afford to get one of these movies, this is the one to get, followed by Part 2. I mentioned these films in another thread, and have since come to realize the third one left a lasting impression. BTW, with all these films, the scenery is amazing and the animal attacks/fights are nothing short of incredible, they look so realistic - 8.0 http://www.filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=58542&forumID=7&archive=0 Other family/outdoor films: The Great Outdoors - 8.5 Continental Divide - 8.0 The Mosquito Coast - 9.5 On Golden Pond - 9.5 A Home of Our Own - 9.5 Swiss Family Robinson - 3.5 Into the Wild 7.5 CastAway - 7.5

THE QUEEN OF OUTER SPACE (1958) So bad it was a hoot. A genuine, adorable piece of kitschy, comic sci-fi caca. The audience and I laughed all the way through it.

ONE EYED MONSTER You have to see it to believe it. It's about a film company making a porn movie up in the snowy mountains being killed off one by one by a Killer Dick. No man attached, just a mutant Dick. No lie. For laughs, 7-10
