Picked up the final season of MTM last week, and fortunately it had the curtain call with credits as expected. What a treat. "I treasure you people." Very moving. A perfect show; the finale plus every episode that preceded it.

I had to call Fox video to get the DVD with the original curtain call, but it was no hassle
Now I have both the syndicated ending along with the original.

Guess what's coming on May 17th!

And check out this little tidbit from TVShowsOnDVD.com:

Although not technically considered part of the ninth and last season for broadcast syndication purposes, when the show originally aired there was a 90-minute special that was first transmitted on March 4, 1979, titled "The 200th Episode of All in the Family"; it was a clip show hosted by Norman Lear. A few weeks ago at the Shout! Factory official message board, a fan asked if this would be included on an eventual Season 9 DVD set, and the answer from Shout! DVD producer Brian Ward was that he thought his colleague Brian Blum, who is the producer of this particular title, had said it would be included on this release as a bonus feature.

I guess the last of a great show. I am one who thinks the show should have ended at season 8 with Mike and Gloria moving to California.

That last season pulled out a good multi parter with Mike and Gloria on the verge of divorce.

I like season 9, but for those who don't, I would think it's still worth getting the set for that special feature. All in the Family retrospectives are a lot of fun. I wish the 20th anniversary special had been released on DVD. That was a great one.

Perhaps a joint Sony/Shout complete series mega-set is possible somewhere down the road.

The new S3 release of "McMillan And Wife" has a nice feature that I wish had been on the "Columbo" DVD releases, namely the restoration of the "NBC Mystery Movie" opening and theme. This is the first time this classic has EVER made it to DVD in any form.

That's GREAT news! About time, too. Where did you hear this tidbit of info?
I recieved word from tvshowsondvd.com that VEI is planning on re-releasing
season 2 of McMILLAN & WIFE. It had been available for a short while in Canada,
but went OOP within a year. It was never available in the U.S. They're planning
for the season 2 release in June, along with season 3.

I've already received my copy of S3 from Canada so I've gotten the head start on seeing the restored opening.

Is the Mystery Movie opening at the beginning of every episode, or just
included as a one-shot extra? I hope they include it on the U.S. dvd sets.

It was included at the beginning of the first episode in the episode itself not as a bonus. I've yet to check the others.

At last! The next to last of my 1960s Grail titles is coming to DVD.

This first part of Season 1 happens to my favorite part of the entire nine year run of the show so the nice thing is getting what for me are the best episodes right out of the gate!

It's on the 2nd episode so I'm going to assume it's on all 6.

I've been waiting for this for MANY years! This was one of the few Quinn Martin series not available on D.V.D.. Now, when's Paramount's going to start putting out "The Untouchables Season 4 Vol. 1"?

And you can pay less than what you got the bootleg D.V.D.s for. By, does anybody notice the Ford Galaxie on the lower left corner?

Unfortunately, this kind of release is a rotten gift because it is expensive and splitted.
Warner follows Paramount in the swindle.
It is only designed for the domestic US market which means poor picture quality and no subtitles (English and Spanish).

The price is no higher than a split season release from CBS/Paramount. And I also think that if one is willing to still pay $15-20 for a 2-3 hour movie title from Warner Archive (the releases of which I have had no problem with), then paying twice that for 15 plus hours of programming is hardly a "rip-off" if one has a little sense of perspective.

Hell, "Flipper" S2, which MGM released as a MOD cost in excess of $50 for the *same* amount of programming in that they were a full season half hour show. The idea this represents a rip-off is just not going to pass muster. And given how stingy Warner has been with their TV catalog for ten years (by far the worst of the studios) I think it's better to be grateful for the fact that they're at last making that catalog available through this program.

I have also had no problem with picture quality on Warner Archive releases for movies. I expect these to be just fine.

Maybe those who are carping could also lob a few grenades at Screen Archives over the cost of "The Kremlin Letter"?

YIKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think I spoke way too soon.
THE FBI is WAY too expensive! $40.00 per HALF season? eek
That's 80 dollars per season. If WB releases the entire series,
this sucker will be almost $800.00 (!) I only paid 40 dollars for the
entire first 6 seasons, which also included a handful of episodes from the
remaining seasons. The bootleg sets I got were recorded from the
American Life network. The episodes are uncut and while they have
the station logo present throughout each episode, they look pretty darn
good. Also, consider this: if WB only releases a half-season every 6
months, it will take them 9 years to release the entire series.
I know that some of you think it's cheaper by purchasing them as
WB releases them, but 800 bucks is still 800 bucks. With all the movies
I still need to get, plus other tv shows, plus cds...there just no way
I can afford this right now. Maybe later, I hope.

Warner Brothers are natural-born crooks (40 bills for future defective DVD disks;
consumers complain about the cheapness of the DVD production)
and despise the American people who need English SDH and
the Spanish population. They should release it as regular DVD sets
for Amazon and make it available for a wider market.
