From a recent conversation in another thread...

(players: nxbusby, losher22, and myself)

~-~-~-~-~-~-~-

I miss it very much. In my opinion, there will never ever be a greater show then Lost. I love Breaking Bad, and Game of Thrones, but as good as they are, theres just that certain something that Lost had, that was just so fantastic. Can never be topped.

I couldn't be more obsessed with Breaking Bad - thanks for mentioning it. In my humble opinion, the ONLY thing that series is missing is more music! And yet, that's one of the cache characteristics of the show - I almost don't miss music's presence.

Awesome you guys...cuz Breaking Bad is at the top of my list of shows to watch. Very much looking forward to it. But first I will finish my Lost revisit, then pick back up with Damages Season 3. I was going to go the Sons of Anarchy route after that, but I keep thinking more and more (and hearing it from others) that Breaking Bad earns priority. Unless Season 4 of Damages becomes available on Netflix streaming before I finish Lost, Breaking Bad will be next up.

And of course, when Season 7 of Supernatural is released, that gets immediate attention, as does Season 6 of Dexter...neither of which have announced their release dates. frown

I also desperately want to revisit one of my all-time favorites that I've only seen all through once, Alias. Outstanding series, that. But that is another story for another time.

DeputyRiley... Yes, season 7 of SUPERNATURAL is a major priority when it is released (we have talking about this several times offline). Looking forward to the second season of NIKITA when it's released.

I just started a re-visit of the Peta Wilson LA FEMME NIKITA series from the 90's... next will be ALIAS (one of my top 5 favorites of all time)... afterwards will be BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, LOST and FRINGE. Lot's to watch. But, looking forward to it.

Finished Supernatural Season 8 a few weeks ago. Brilliant and entertaining as always.

Just finished The Following Season 1 and was blown away by how exciting and complex it was. Very fascinating psychological ruminations on evil and the human mind. Finished the season finale episode and as soon as it cut to black, I just laughed out loud. Not because it was funny, but because it ended on such a gloriously over-the-top shocker and faded to black right in the middle of it I was knocked on my ass! Totally awesome. Season 2 can't come here soon enough.

Next up is Dexter Season 6.

Just found out that Party of Five Season 4 was finally released on DVD so will be checking that out very soon as well. The rest of the later seasons were released on Amazon digital as well so I can finally finish that series.

Justified Seasons 3 and 4 are patiently waiting in the wings...

Desperately want to revisit old flames Lost and Felicity and Buffy and Tru Calling but on the other hand...never seen Fringe or Veronica Mars or Person of Interest or Breaking Bad and am extremely curious about those as well.

I need more time. If only I could afford to take some sick days.

I'm currently re-watching The Pretender and am a little more than half way through Season 3. It was one of my favorite shows when it was on, but I hadn't really seen it much since TNT aired reruns around 2001/2002. I've actually had the DVDs for several years now, but had only ever watched specific episodes. I recently decided it was time to finally sit down and do a complete re-watch from the beginning. Great show.

Recently watched Justified season 3 (terrific), Justified season 4 (not the series' best), and Dexter season 7 (the best season since the fourth). Dexter once again surprises and shocks and leads you by the hand into totally fresh, psychologically rich territory while retaining the series' trademark thrills and moral puzzles. Dying to see season 8 (the final season)! After the shock of the season 7 finale, I simply cannot wait to find out what happens next.

Next up I will be beginning Fringe from the start. Never seen it before. Considering picking ER back up where I left off at the beginning of season 3 and may alternate these two shows.

Recently watched Justified season 3 (terrific), Justified season 4 (not the series' best),

I thought Season 4 was the show's best season yet, even edging out Season 2 for me. I liked that it had a central mystery involving all the characters instead of another "villain of the year" plot. Season 3, despite some nice stuff, I thought ended up being underwhelming, especially with how Neal McDonough never really got to shine as the bad guy.

There was definitely good and bad for season 4. I liked that Shelby ended up being Drew Thompson but I never got a good grasp as to who Thompson was as a character. I thought t was odd how Limehouse was such a central character to season 3 and then all but vanished in season 4. The subplots for season 4 were what lowered the season's quality for me: the snake handler, the errant prostitute on the run, Raylan's grifter love interest, Johnny's betrayal...not my favorite stuff. I did really enjoy Ron Eldard's run as the junkie ex-soldier, the return of the delightfully creepy Wynn Duffy, and the Boyd/Ava relationship. I thought the death of Arlo Givens was handled very well and Timothy Olyphant really shone in that aftermath. I liked how the Drew Thompson case had ties to every faction in and around Harlan as well as Detroit. I wished they'd done more with Adam Arkin's barely-seen ubervillain...he was in one episode and then only mentioned by name all through the rest of season 4 even though he was one of he major forces at work. Presumably he'll surface more prominently in season 5?

I liked in season 3 the dual villain scenario, how you could never tell who was worse: Limehouse or Quarles...although eventually you did figure out who was worse, as Quarles' character became more and more unhinged and psychotic as the season came to a close. I actually think McDonough really did shine. I liked in season 3 how they dealt with the fallout from Mags' death in season 2. Also, season 3 had an appearance by the incomparable Dewey Crowe, but I don't remember seeing him in season 4!

Finally, they should have left Dickie in season 2, he was good in that season but has been nothing but irritating as a character and useless to the storylines.

I think that's just because he wasn't essential to the storyline of season 4 the way he was in season 3, although I did enjoy when he showed up right toward the end of the season.

Recently began alternating science (Fringe) and medicine (ER). Kind of a fun way to watch shows. One episode of one, one episode of the other, then back and forth, thus satisfying my desire to see a new show I'm interested in (Fringe) and revisit a show I love (ER).

Every once in awhile too I will put on Season 1 of Spin City to relieve the tension and drama (although Walter Bishop does that too). Thinking of starting How I Met Your Mother also and maybe alternating it with Spin City. At that rate, four shows at a time, it will take forever to get through but I think it'll be fun.

First TV show of '14 was Veronica Mars Season 1. I'd seen the first season before but not the next two, and with the movie coming out I wanted to catch up. I think I feel the same now as I did the first time around: the core of the show, the central mystery and even the weekly mysteries, is solid, and Veronica's family and friends are fun, but the high school love triangle stuff is even more of a slog for me to get through now than it was when I was the right age for it. Also, with the show's central mystery and conflict resolved at the end of Season 1, I hope that the next couple seasons don't feel like they're grasping for unlikely big mysteries to rival that. Guess I'll find out soon -- onward to season 2!

Anime I am currently watching:
Persona 4 - Fun anime based on the video game. I don't have the time or interest in re-playing the game so this gives me the plot and characters. Also fun because my husband has never played these games.
Space Brothers - Been hooked on this from the start. Now on Episode 90! A fun heartwarming story though it does at times become slow. Musically, this show is usually a lot of fun with so many great themes.
Silver Spoon - An interesting slice of life anime set in a farming high school. The main character is learning all about running a farm with a bunch of people from farming families.
Majestic Prince - An interesting show that could be better but satisfies my mecha anime wants. Just took a turn for the better though because some stupid characters were finally replaced.

TV Shows I'm currently Watching
Agents of Shield - Enjoying it though not as much as I might have hoped.
Shameless - Started watching the US version of this show and so far am enjoying it. Some crazy characters and good comedy.
Bones - Been hooked on this since the very start and still love it every week (almost).
Elementary - Took a little bit to warm to this but I do really quite like the cast now. Occasionally the actual mystery will be pretty boring but it is rare to see a completely bad episode.
House of Cards - Re-watching season 1 in anticipation of season 2. Loved the show the first time around.

To mastage - is that you, Eric?

Forgive me for prying, but I've been following a load of Ice Station Zebra topics and I can see Eric Paddon has posted today in this thread, but the old avatar just isn't showing. It's as if Eric Paddon is being automatically masked right off profile, although I have no reason to put anyone on ignore. Apologies if I've been chasing my own tail.

Of all the people in this world I would never have thought I'd be mistaken for, Eric Paddon is near the top of the list!

Something pretty strange is going on then, mastage. I'll just have to say "sorry," old sport.

Edit: I've been poring over Ice Station Zebra posts, in which he was quite vociferous, and it's just that I haven't seen a post from Eric as of late, so I was only wondering if he's OK.

Recently finished:

ER SEASON 4 -- Probably one of the greatest seasons of the show, with constant and consistently riveting storylines and great guest stars, with the perfect blend of main cast.

FRINGE SEASON 2 -- Season1 was very good, but oh my Season 2 was stellar. There were some frustratingly dull filler episodes peppered through the middle of the season, but otherwise fantastic storylines and character development throughout. The final several episodes were some of the greatest science fiction writing and narrative that I've ever seen, enjoyably complex, not talking down to the audience but taking them for a fun and unpredictable ride that ended with a spectacular cliffhanger.

JUSTIFIED SEASON 5 -- Just wrapped up last night. Easily the best season of this program. Awesome performances in every single episode, a terrific roster of guest stars, constant and brilliantly written tension and intensity via character conflict -- white-knuckle, nail-biting suspense and clever surprises. The Crowe clan, along with the Detroit Mob, Dixie Mafia, assorted drug- and gun-thugs, and Crowder's Crew made for a thoroughly satisfying menagerie of menace for Raylan and the marshals to tangle with. The Crowe family was a spectacularly written dysfunctional crime family in operatic, grand style, and the acting by Alicia Witt, Michael Rapaport, and A.J. Buckley (easily season 5's MVP) was exemplary. A.J. Buckley's despicably evil Danny Crowe, with a soft spot for his pooch, joins Margo Martindale's Mags Bennett as the best villain the show's ever had (Boyd too, it goes without saying). Likewise, bumping Jere Burns's delightfully calm and articulate Wynn Duffy and Damon Herriman's delightfully spastic and doofy Dewey Crowe up to prominent series stars was a wise move.

Justified season 5 wrapped last night. Overall the season felt a bit unfocused, but there were some great moments and it ended well. Seasons 2 and 4 have been the high points for me, and it'll be sad to see the series end next year.

Just finished the final episode of Fringe -- that show was marvelous, I absolutely loved it from start to finish. I could go on and on about its genius but for now I'll just say it was one of the most emotional, fascinating, complex, thrilling, and ingenious shows I've ever seen.

Finished season 6 of ER recently and about to begin season 7. Will stop my revisit of ER after season 8 because that is when the core cast (except for Noah Wyle) has all exited -- most pointedly Anthony Edwards and Eriq La Salle. After season 8 the show never seemed to regain the same magic or ensemble charisma, although it still was a very good show at times.

About to start a quickie show -- the 13-episode Harper's Island. Thanks Mastadge! Looking forward to it.

After that, the shows I'm considering starting I've narrowed down to the following:

Veronica Mars
Tru Calling
(revisit)
Revolution
Continuum
Felicity
(revisit)
Breaking Bad
Party of Five
Lost
(revisit)
Falling Skies

Fringe will be a massively tough act to follow...

As I've written elsewhere, I was convinced to watch the first 4 episodes of season 1 of "Orange Is The New Black" yesterday, and the second disc is due to arrive tomorrow.

But if you're asking about EVERYTHING we're watching these days:

Hardball With Chris Matthews
The Ed Show
All In With Chris Hayes
The Rachel Maddow Show
The Last Word With Lawrence O'Donnell
Up With Steve Kornacki
Jeopardy!
America's Got Talent
True Blood
Real Time With Bill Maher
Crisis (but now cancelled)
Believe (ditto)
The Good Wife
Meet The Press
NBC Nightly News

And soon: Big Brother and Under The Dome

Yes, too much TV, and that doesn't even touch upon what I see on HBO and Cinemax and Showtime and about 300 other HD channels! Need to cut back on some of these!
