DR. STRANGELOVE II:ESCAPE FROM THE WAR ROOM (1973) Second in the Strangelove franchise begins with the revelation that the Russian Doomsday machine was merely propaganda, but no one tells the Americans and the Russian ambassador in the War Room, the door of which can't be opened because someone lost the spare key. Peter Sellars returns to play all the parts he played in the original, and the new role of crack hostage rescue team leader Bob Tragedy. Climactic scene of Coke cans exploding to "Crazy Rhythm" lacks impact of Kubrick's original finale, but romance between Pvt. Needlenose (Peter Bonerz) and secretary Helen Happy (Vicki Lawrence) provides laughs and genuine pathos. Nipsey Russell (Gen. Turgidson), Mary Tyler Moore (Mrs. Gen. Turgidson), Desi Arnaz, Jr. (Jimmy Turgidson), Slim Pickens, Capucine. Directed by Blake Edwards.
