Only special feature is a 1996 retrospective on the show (45 minutes) that aired on local Hawaiian TV. Haven't seen that yet but the fans of the show call it outstanding as it has recollections from some cast members who are dead now (Kam Fong). Jack Lord's wife also participates.

Thanks, can't wait! Probably the best opening credit sequence in tv history.

I'd gladly do without special features and just get the excellent sound and picture transfers if it means getting the entire series out on DVD. I hope that Paramount gets at least two seasons out a year of FIVE-O (same goes for Mission: Impossible).
Glad to hear that Banacek is on the way, as well. I never knew the show existed until its appearance on Hallmark a few years ago. How dare the Powers That Be keep a show from me where the lead character wears turtlenecks and houndstooth jackets!
The way Five-O is selling, I wouldn't be surprised if we got as far as Season 3 by year's end. The Season 2 debut with Barbara Luna is one I'm looking forward to seeing.
Given how long it would take to get all of this show out, I am glad I found a Columbia House VHS copy of "Nine Dragons" on e-bay for the time being.

"A Thousand Pardons, You're Dead!" is one of the best episodes in the series! Harry Guardino is over-the-top and deliciously evil, while Barbara Luna is delightful in that white bikini...I still have the (no-doubt) truncated version I have on tape...
BTW, it's amusing to see how many times the 'Robin's Nest" estate from Magnum, P.I. appears in H5O; "Sweet Terror" and "Woe to Wo Fat" come to mind...
Sounds like an idea for a Mirror Universe sitcom, "I Love Luna."
LOL- I must admit, that's pretty funny- I doubt Mrs. Arnaz saw too much to laugh about, though.
She got the last laugh, though, when she sold her shares and complete ownership of Desilu (she'd bought him out in 1962) for 17 million U.S. 1967 dollars to Gulf & Western.
The reviewer at DVD Verdict.com mentioned that the sound was "uneven" and that dialogue was quiet while music and effects were quite loud. Any truth in this? Is dialogue completely understandable and clear? The review is probably by a nineteen year-old kid who expects the latest in sound and pic on 40 year old TV shows, but I was just wondering...
"My only complaint is that the sound quality is uneven. Music and sound effects are so loud I have to turn down the volume, only to turn it up again when people start to speak."
This is an interesting comment regarding why there weren't more extras on the Five-O set.
"What happened was that both James MacArthur and Mrs. Freeman did, in fact, agree to provide audio commentary and/or on-camera interviews. This had even progressed to the point where dates and times had been arranged with JM and there was some conversation about whether he would do his stuff alone or whether some of it would be done in the same room with Mrs. Freeman. There was also talk of approaching others (like Kevin McCarthy). Then, suddenly, just two days before this was to commence, word came down from Paramount that they had gotten their hands on the Emme program and had decided it was more cost-effective and time efficient to simply use something already in existence rather than spend the time/money/effort to make something new".
Hawaii Five-O was the longest running cop show on television, until Law & Order stole the title nearly twenty years later.
In the UK The Bill has lasted longer than either (it started in 1984 and is still running today), but most cop show fans here don't seem to consider it (The Bill, I mean) in the same league as Law & Order et al.
I wonder if any of the sets will have a feature on Morton Stevens?
Some more news on when we might realistically expect Season 2. Based on this, my bet is for six months after Season 1, which would mean September.
"A reliable source within Paramount has expressed high confidence that more seasons will be released, but the when is anybody's guess at this point. The only confirmed fact is that it is not on the release schedule for the next three to four months. The phrase 'they usually like to space these things out' was used."
Received my FIVE-O set saturday and the three episodes I've watched look and sound great! Kevin McCarthy was deliciously creepy in "Full Fathom Five", which I hadn't seen up to now.
It's interesting to see what was cut out of the Pilot and No Blue Skies, as I know those eps well.
Remembering the VTTBOTS episde "The Left Handed Man", when the guards chase Charles Diekop around the Fox backlot. The jeeps have USAAF numbers no doubt borrowed from Twelve o Clock High. I would love to see this show on DVD in UK , since Fox can release "The Rat Patrol" here.

I may have missed something on this thread, or don't remember, but why can't it be released here in the U.S.?
They theoretically should be able to release Season 2 of "Rat Patrol" here as well since the rights issue for MGM changed hands from Sony to Fox after Season 1 was released by Sony. I wish they would release it and finish the run!

And one can never have "too much" of Hans Gudegast!
