I just love this cover. And I'm getting a kick out of playing this score to "Choma" in my head. The signature snare drum Fielding uses when Peppard is dressed all in black at night sneaking cat like around the stately mansion is sublime. Sounds a lot like "The Enforcer" with just a hint of his earlier "Hawkins" material.

...and lots and LOTS of "sneaking around" music. No one did that kind of cue like Fielding. wink

That's one helluva 1600th post.

I see you finished up the Johnny Cash movie "Trilogy" that I started. I had some fun with that. Johnny would probably have done a couple of those had they been offered! big grin

Johnny Cash just wasn't born to wear a suit and tie. And on the occasions when he did wear one he didn't look right. Nobody would ever believe he was a Wall Street banker, or even a sharp businessman in a movie. He fit right into those scrub pine backwoods "drifter" type roles the way Brooke Shields fit into her Calvin's all those years ago.

Long live this thread. I hope they keep coming. It's been a whole lot of fun.

LEO MCKERN is THE REASONOR (1981)
Frederick Loftybeck, creator of ALAN FIVEHOUSE, returns to the mystery/thriller genre in between FIVEHOUSE lapses with this story of a British Psychiatrist (McKern) contracted by Scotland Yard to mitigate a tense standoff with IRA terrorists during the hijack of a passenger plane. Ian McShane, Judy Davis, Billie Whitelaw, Edward Woodward, James Fox, and Malcolm McDowell.

This soundtrack LP became hard to find for many years. Another composer was originally slated for this assignment but had a scheduling conflict and Loftybeck was able to get Mancini involved at the last minute. A fine suspense score with a memorable main theme skillfully weaved throughout. Fred Loftybeck always had the good fortune of having top drawer composers on his many projects.

And Loftybeck's mom, so I was told by Rita before she passed on, used to make her Sunday gravy and meatballs. One Sunday in 1986, Fred invited Mancini to his Vermont estate where they enjoyed her fresh stuffed shells, renowned meatballs (pork, beef, and veal blend I might add), topped off with an amazing almond/pignolia custard tart. Mancini commented, ...Wow, now that's what I call some spicy meat-a-ballz..." Then, Fred laughed, "...Tell me what you really think, Hank...."

A CRIME OF REASON (1999)

Dir. Joel Coen (actually Joel and Ethan Coen). Starring Jim Carrey, John Turturro, Jon Polito, Olivia Williams, Christian Clemenson, Samuel L. Jackson.

Zany neo-noir about a botched robbery at a carnival which evolves into a city-wide scandal in Kansas City, MO. Takes place in 1986, yet evokes the middle 1960s and the late 1970s. Famous line: "I ain't gonna ride no fuckin' Blue Mouse Rollercoaster, I can tell you that, Charlie!"

TALE OF TWO REASONORS (1986)
The final movie that put the nail in the coffin for the franchise. Dr. Neville Marcus (Leo McKern) has to outwit his equally brilliant counterpart (Patrick Stewart) as the two must help profile a sociopathic female killer. Leslie Ann Down, Alfred Molina, Nigel Hawthorne, Tom Baker, and Judy Davis.

Such promise for this series.

Thanks for providing laughs for me throughout the holidays.

I've had a nasty headcold and accompanying writers' block.

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!
Praying for all of you that we experience good things in 2011!

Jumping ahead to (almost) 2014, I want to express the same sentiments as Donna to all who posted on this thread over the years and to those who've read it. I still get a kick out of going through the posts. The regulars Jim Phelps, JS Walsh, Eric, and Quiller have all been absent from this place lately. I hope all is well and wish them a Happy New Year wherever they are. And Max, thanks for starting it and along with Mr. Phelps providing a good many of the laughs we've shared here over the years.

Happy New Year

Jim

Did Walken and Farrell travel from Block Island for the event? big grin

I would enjoy a chance to see Ron "Rocky" Swoboda. Just to shake his hand and thank him for being a big part of the amazing '69 Mets.

Nice touch of having Dub and then Buck Taylor in the sequel. lol

Oh! Found a press kit from that first "Woodcock" telefilm at a going-out-of-business sale of a local bookstore and thought I'd post a scan I made from it here. Enjoy.

In looking back over this thread it would appear that many once-popular actors (like "Noah Wylie") probably could use the work we created for them here.

John Beck! He was "everywhere" in 1973. (Sleeper; Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid). Nice to see him in this earlier, non-breakout role.
