LEO MCKERN is THE REASONOR (1981)
Frederick Loftybeck, creator of ALAN FIVEHOUSE, returns to the mystery/thriller genre in between FIVEHOUSE lapses with this story of a British Psychiatrist (McKern) contracted by Scotland Yard to mitigate a tense standoff with IRA terrorists during the hijack of a passenger plane. Ian McShane, Judy Davis, Billie Whitelaw, Edward Woodward, James Fox, and Malcolm McDowell.
This soundtrack LP became hard to find for many years. Another composer was originally slated for this assignment but had a scheduling conflict and Loftybeck was able to get Mancini involved at the last minute. A fine suspense score with a memorable main theme skillfully weaved throughout. Fred Loftybeck always had the good fortune of having top drawer composers on his many projects.
And Loftybeck's mom, so I was told by Rita before she passed on, used to make her Sunday gravy and meatballs. One Sunday in 1986, Fred invited Mancini to his Vermont estate where they enjoyed her fresh stuffed shells, renowned meatballs (pork, beef, and veal blend I might add), topped off with an amazing almond/pignolia custard tart. Mancini commented, ...Wow, now that's what I call some spicy meat-a-ballz..." Then, Fred laughed, "...Tell me what you really think, Hank...."

Zany neo-noir about a botched robbery at a carnival which evolves into a city-wide scandal in Kansas City, MO. Takes place in 1986, yet evokes the middle 1960s and the late 1970s. Famous line: "I ain't gonna ride no fuckin' Blue Mouse Rollercoaster, I can tell you that, Charlie!"

Former Tennessee businessman Zach Woodcock (Joe Don Baker) who lives peacefully off the land in the the Great Smoky Mountains is forced to take matters into his own hands after repeated attempts to chase him out of the park boundaries by local authorities fail . Susan Anspach, Buck Taylor, Larry Hagman, Lou Frizzell, Morgan Woodward, James Wainwright, David Huddleston. Special appearance by Waylon Jennings as "Calhoun".
Nice touch of having Dub and then Buck Taylor in the sequel. lol

Tige Andrews, Virginia Gregg, James Stacy, Andrew Prine, Rudy Diaz, Otis Young, Isabel Cooley, Charles Dierkop, and Burr De Benning.
John Beck! He was "everywhere" in 1973. (Sleeper; Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid). Nice to see him in this earlier, non-breakout role.
