I did NOT pay 300 dollars for LONGSTREET. I knew a guy who was kind
enough to copy the set for me at the very reasonable price of $35.00
He made exact duplicates of the discs, however he switched off the
Japanese subtitles and created his own english language menus
for the discs. No way would I ever pay 300 bucks for a tv series
no matter how many seasons there are.

Amen to that.

"Coronet Blue". An overrated cult favorite show of some people who by their subjective standards don't think its important that this weekly look at a guy with no memory of who he was never really advanced its storyline and instead gave us a knockoff of the formula done to better effect in "The Fugitive" and to a lesser degree "The Invaders."

"Longstreet". I've seen a few episodes only but like what I've seen of a blind PI. The presence of Marlyn Mason (an underrated beauty of the late 60s and 70s) also helps.

"Coronet Blue"'s premise was partially reworked from "A Man Called Shenandoah", and was reworked again as "Lazurus Man".

A few weeks ago we updated you about the Timeless Media Group's plans to release Alias Smith and Jones - The Complete Series: Special Edition, an 11-DVD set with a bonus disc containing new interviews on it, this coming February 5th. Overnight we've gotten word from readers that Amazon.com's pre-order listing for the title has been taken down, and that they're worried that the title is being pulled for some reason. We haven't yet gotten in touch with the studio themselves, so we have no official word on this yet. But our retail industry contacts inform us that there has been no change to the schedule as far as they can see. Furthermore, DVDEmpire.com still has a listing up for this title to arrive on that date (see button link below), and they have even added cover art for the title. See for yourself! If TMG or their owners at Shout! Factory tell us differently, we'll let you know, but for now it appears that the title's still coming, and that Amazon might just have a glitch for this item.

UPDATE: We've been warned not to necessarily trust that February 5th date after all, despite the other information such as DVDEmpire's listing. We still don't have definitive info yet, but it's quite possible that this title has been pulled (postponed? cancelled? we just don't know!) after all. We're still looking into it; stay tuned!

Before Lynda Carter took the heroine back to World War II for her "New, Original" incarnation, statuesque Tennis Pro turned performer Cathy Lee Crosby swung the magic lasso in a very different TV incarnation. As developed by scribe John D.F. Black (Star Trek, Shaft), and seemingly influenced by her recent turn as a mod, cat-suited crime-fighter in the pages of her DC Comics home, this Amazon Princess was more superspy than superhero. But fret not, four-color fans!

Many of the expected wondrous elements from bracelets and lassos to Paradise Island and invisible jets, all make an appearance, albeit with a sleek, seventies espionage superaction refit. Ricardo Montalban plays the laconic lothario who lurks at the top of a conspiracy to make off with ultra-secret code books, leading Agent Prince to discover an Amazon sister-in-exile (Anitra Ford).
Yes, 1974's Wonder Woman - The Cathy Lee Crosby Pilot was VERY different from the version Lynda Carter brought to the small screen in the 1975 telefilm, which led to a pair of April 1976 hour-long specials and then the regular weekly series that Carter starred in later in 1976. All of the early Lynda Carter productions can be found on both the Season 1 set Warner Home Video released on DVD in 2004, and the Complete Series set that came out in 2007. But fans always felt like something was missing, because the Cathy Lee Crosby-starring pilot from 1974 - which clearly wasn't up to snuff to become a weekly show, but equally clearly led to the Lynda Carter program - wasn't included on either DVD set.

Now the Warner Archive Collection has announced that this coming Tuesday, December 11th will see the MOD (manufacture on demand) DVD release of Wonder Woman - The Cathy Lee Crosby Pilot. This single-disc release running 73 minutes will cost $14.95 SRP, and includes the feature in the original 1.33:1 video aspect ratio and English mono audio soundtrack. It's only available from the WBshop.com online studio store right now , so that means it will only ship to U.S. customers. But it will soon be made available globally via Amazon's CreateSpace MOD program as well (how appropriate for an Amazon princess, right?).

Following in the footsteps of critically acclaimed and best-selling deluxe DVD sets of THE CAROL BURNETT SHOW, THE SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN and many others, the TV DVD archivists at Time Life, in conjunction with Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group, will release the beloved ABC-TV series CHINA BEACH in 2013. One of the most eagerly-anticipated unreleased television programs of all time, according to TVShowsOnDVD.com, the release marks the first time the complete series will be available on any format. CHINA BEACH: THE COMPLETE COLLECTION will be offered as a singular collector's set featuring all 62 episodes (64 hours), and several hours of specially-created bonus features including a cast reunion and interviews with Dana Delany, Marg Helgenberger, producers John Sacret Young and John Wells, and many other cast and crew members. CHINA BEACH: THE COMPLETE COLLECTION will initially be available exclusively online, available for pre-order at www.TimeLife.com/ChinaBeach in early 2013, before it rolls out nationally to retail later in the year.

From the moment CHINA BEACH debuted in 1988 with its iconic opening credits backed by the Supremes' "Reflections," it was hailed as groundbreaking. In an era of testosterone-driven Vietnam movies such as Platoon, CHINA BEACH - created by award-winning journalist and Vietnam vet William Broyles Jr. and John Sacret Young - delivered the war from a unique perspective: that of the women, military personnel and civilians who were present during the conflict. Set in the Vietnam locale of China Beach, at the "Five and Dime" (a.k.a. the 510th Evacuation Hospital and R&R), the cast was made up of US Army doctors and nurses, officers and soldiers, Red Cross volunteers and civilian personnel, either on leave or at the end of their tour of duty. The supremely talented ensemble cast featured many actors beginning to make their marks on the industry, and included Dana Delany (First Lieutenant/Captain Nurse Colleen McMurphy), Marg Helgenberger (K.C. Koloski), Michael Boatman (SP4 Sam Beckett), Robert Picardo (Captain Dr. Dick Richard) and Ricki Lake (Holly Pelegrino). The other side of the camera boasted such accomplished talents as multiple Emmy Award-nominee Writer/Director/Executive Producer Sacret Young and producer John Wells, who would go on to executive produce "ER" and "The West Wing."

One of the hallmarks of the series was the use of music -- iconic, emotional music from the era featuring everyone from Bob Dylan and Joan Baez, to Aretha Franklin and Stevie Wonder. It's the music, in fact, that has prevented CHINA BEACH from being released at all. Time Life spent over a year painstakingly clearing the rights to nearly 500 musical copyrights, so the program will be released with almost all of the original music intact.

There have reportedly been some problems with The Fugitive Most Wanted box set as released in November (but not with the first recalled release in 2011). Five episodes had problems: Landscape with Running Figures and Three Cheers for Little Boy Blue had playback issues (the discs kept freezing); The Iron Maiden had replacement music added back in; Taps for a Dead War and Bloodline has audio synch issues. CBS / Paramount has a disc replacement program in place with repaired DVDs at the ready. Even with this in mind, I had the wife get one for me for Christmas.

So now I've been going through the discs for these issues and I'm not having any. Landscape and Little Boy Blue play beautifully. The music in The Iron Maiden sounded right to me and Taps for a Dead War had no lip synch issues. I'll check out Bloodline tonight, but my set seems to be glitch free. So this means:

1) I got really lucky
2) my set is a "fully repaired" set
or
3) it's some kind of leftover from the 2011 set.

She ordered it from "ImportCD" through Amazon. So maybe they have new sets???

Even if the sets were problem-free, they're still too expensive, imo.
And before you say the original 2-volume season sets were just as expensive,
I didn't have to purchase them all at one time. Unless I get really lucky and
find an inexpensive set on ebay or something, I don't forsee ever getting
the chance to see THE FUGITIVE with the original music ever again - at least
remastered. I do have seasons 2 and 3 recorded from tv broadcasts.

At last, "Stoney Burke" will be available on DVD and on April, 16.
http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Stoney-Burke-The-Complete-Series/18011

Unfortunately, it's from a little company: Shout!/Timeless.
We don't know the quality of the prints.
I don't think they will provide subtitles.

The main reasons to order the set:
1. The director of photography: Conrad Hall
2. The composer: Dominic Frontiere
3. The director: Leslie Stevens
4. The main cast: Jack Lord, Warren Oates, Bruce Dern
5. The guest cast: too many actors to list…

Stay with us, Stoney Boney!

Shout! Did a fine job with the fourth season of QUINCY, M.E. but I don't know if they were only dealing with Universal remasters from some years ago. Whatever the case, I am pleased with that dvd set.

Too many of the new vintage titles making it to DVD of late are ones I really don't have much interest in getting. "Dobie Gillis", also coming from Shout never impressed me the few times I caught it on Nick decades ago, and after being oversaturated with Westerns I'd never seen before in the last few years, I'm not ready to try another one, hence I shall pass on "Stoney Burke" for now.

Right now, the biggest priorities for me are to see these shows proceeding/unstalled: Love Boat, Fantasy Island, Barnaby Jones, Burke's Law, Big Valley, Bob Newhart, McCloud, One Step Beyond and Hart To Hart. Get them completed along with the reliable titles from Warner Archive ("The FBI" and the final season of Tarzan which I know will be avaialable at some point) and I'm close to the best possible TV library I could ask for!

"Stoney Burke" is a UA/MGM series.
Let's hope the prints are clean!
