Since it looks as if we’ve seen the last of the releases for this year, notwithstanding next week’s “The Buccaneer,” which doesn’t fit in here, I thought I’d put out the 2013 list of LPs released for the first time on CD. And before any questions are raised, let me say that Varese’s “Brass Target” will not ship until 2014, so it will be on next year’s list. As usual, this is a U.S.-centric list, with only a few foreign LP releases covered. I invite contributors to add foreign LPs that made it to CD this year, and any other additions to the list. The count for this year is 43 releases, the highest number in five years. Here is the recent history. 2013 – 43 2012 – 27 2011 – 29 2010 – 41 2009 – 38 Amorous Adventures of Moll Flanders, The (John Addison) [RCA] {Released by Quartet, June 2013} Born Losers (Mike Curb) [Tower] {Released by Curb, April 2013} [CD-R] Butch and Sundance: The Early Days (Patrick Williams) [Columbia] {Released by Kritzerland, January 2013} Carpetbaggers, The (Elmer Bernstein) [Ava] {Released by Intrada, April 2013} Castaway (Stanley Myers, Hans Zimmer) [EMI] {Released by Quartet, July 2013} College Confidential (Dean Elliot) [Chancellor] {Released by Jazz In the Movies, November 2013} Corrupt Ones, The (Georges Garvarentz) [United Artists] {Released by Music Box, May 2013} Cromwell (dialogue, Frank Cordell) [Capitol] {Released by Intrada, January 2013} Devil’s Angels [download also] (Mike Curb) [Tower] {Released by Curb, April 2013} [CD-R] Devil’s 8, The [download also] (Mike Curb) [Tower] {Released by Curb, April 2013} [CD-R] Diary of Anne Frank, The (Alfred Newman) [20th Century Fox] {Released by Real Gone Music, April 2013} Dino (Gerald Fried) [Epic] {Released by Jazz In the Movies, November 2013} Escape From the Dark [The Littlest Horse Thieves] (Ron Goodwin) [EMI] [Released by Quartet, November 2013} Five Days from Home (Bill Conti) [MCA] {Released by Intrada, April 2013} Glory Stompers, The [download also] (Mike Curb, Harley Hatcher) [Sidewalk] {Released by Curb, April 2013} [CD-R] Hammersmith Is Out (Dominic Frontiere) [Capitol] {Released by Quartet, April 2013} Heidi (LP program / John Williams, dialogue) [Capitol] {Released by Quartet, May 2013} Hell to Eternity (Leith Stevens) [Warwick] {Released by Jazz In the Movies, November 2013} Hellcats, The (various rock) [Tower] {Released by Reel Time, April 2013} Hot Rod Rumble (Alexander Courage) [Liberty] {Released by Jazz In the Movies, November 2013} Idolmaker, The (various pop) [A&M] {Released by Varese Sarabande, July 2013} Interns, The (Leith Stevens) [Colpix] {Released by Jazz In the Movies, November 2013} Killer Force (Georges Garvarentz) [Audio Fidelity] {Released by Music Box, May 2013} Killers Three [download also] (Mike Curb, Harley Hatcher) [Tower] {Released by Curb, April 2013} [CD-R] Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane, The (Christian Gaubert) [Polydor, Japan] {Released by Disques CineMusique, September 2013} Little Night Music, A (Stephen Sondheim) [Columbia] {Released by Masterworks Broadway, November 2013} Mona Lisa (Michael Kamen) [EMI] {Released by Quartet, July 2013} Murder Inc. There's probably about 900 U.S. soundtrack LPs that haven't been released on CD. And most of those are by Kenyon Hopkins! Or Frank Skinner... Yavar

I have long wished to have one of the gaps in my Streisand collection, the soundtrack for "The Owl And The Pussycat," on CD, but when I finally found it after seeing the above (had to go to Blood Sweat And Tears) I found that it was the second part of something else and included just the following cues: Tracks 10 through 21 recorded for the film The Owl and the Pussycat The Confrontation (Instrumental Interlude - Part 1) (2:19) The Confrontation (Instrumental Interlude - Part 2) (2:28) The Warmup (Instrumental Interlude - Part 1) (:40) The Warmup (Instrumental Interlude - Part 2) (2:17) The Seduction (Instrumental Interlude - Part 1) (:21) The Seduction (Instrumental Interlude - Part 2) (:45) The Morning After (Instrumental Interlude - Part 1) (1:20) The Morning After (Instrumental Interlude - Part 2) (1:08) The Morning After (Instrumental Interlude - Part 3) (1:30) The Reunion (Instrumental Interlude - Part 1) (1:58) The Reunion (Instrumental Interlude - Part 2) (:19) Just Want To Mention (You've Been Alone Too Long) (The Owl and the Pussycat - Closing Credits) (3:08) The Owl and the Pussycat (Instrumental Interlude - Outtake 1) (1:23) The Owl and the Pussycat (Instrumental Interlude - Outtake 2) (3:21) The Owl and the Pussycat (Instrumental Interlude - Outtake 3) (:44) The Owl and the Pussycat (Instrumental Interlude - Outtake 4) (:20) Only about 23 minutes, there are none of the very funny dialog clips that were so important on the original LP, which is a big disappointment. It's like releasing the soundtrack for "5 Easy Pieces" and including just the music but none of the terrific dialog clips from the LP with Karen Black and Jack Nicholson and Lois Smith and Fannie Flagg.
