Oops, my post went to the wrong side:

Who is Pedro Bronfman, composer of the new, unnecessary redo, and
how did he, apparently with no prior credits, land a big budget A list film???
I'm not bashing without hearing or seeing the film first, since this could be
the freshest score done this millennium, but its still a little weird.

Discussion anyone?

Yeah, big gig for a relative unknown.
Robocop was done in London with orchestra.
Latin/Jazz schooling.
Could be interesting.
Let's hope he smashes it.

Pedro Bromfman is director José Padilha's regular composer. Padilha presumably got the job on the basis of his trilogy of films -- the two Elite Squad movies and a documentary -- about urban violence and crime. This trilogy looks at crime on three different levels: Bus 174 looks at crime and violence from the level of the street criminal, the first Elite Squad from the level of the police on the streets, and the second Elite Squad from the political/state level. As you probably recall, RoboCop, in addition to being an action film, was a satire and largely dealt with the crime and violence in Detroit. So they probably hoped to bring Padilha's more contemporary vision of urban violence and corruption to the mix with this new RoboCop, and either decided or conceded that he should keep his regular composer along with him for the ride. Now whether any of Padilha's sensibilities will actually survive the Hollywood system and make it to the big screen remains to be seen!

Brom not Bron, THAT's why I couldn't find anything!

Thanks guys, this may be interesting - how wild would it be
to get a bit of Schifrin-ish jazz colliding with orchestra and electronics,
not the usual "yum yum braaaaaaaaammmmm" RC jive.
This thing may surprise everyone, like the recent DREDD did.

Like DREDD would be more than we could wish for !!!
I hope the suits don't pressure the composer to drone in the same old sounds of 'these days'.
Something JazzSchifrin could give people palpatations!! smile

Schifrin style would be a shock to contemporary audiences, but it's nice to dream.

I'm waiting for others to watch first and see how the reviews come in.

Rivaling or topping Basil is going to be REAL difficult, but hope springs eternal....
I was surprised there was no talk, speculation, griping that I could find on this
board about the project.

DREDD has to be a real trip in 3D, I really want to see it that way someday.....

As of four weeks ago - they were still shooting ! I kid you not. They shot some new scenes just down the street from me.

Holy cow THAT is cutting it somewhat close!?!?
Maybe the post window will be so short they'll just have
to accept whatever score is turned in - and a super cool modernist
jazz avant-garde classic is born and loved by soundtrack folk everywhere!

So, how'd it look, did you watch any filming? Do we have a winner here or what? ;-)

Not so much. There have been re- shoots after re-shoots. The costume is weird. He looks like a black Power Ranger. They also shot for two weeks at a building where my friend works and they ended up scrapping all the footage from what I heard. It's in trouble.

I'm actually looking forward to the music to this as I've never heard anything from Bromfman before. The last couple of times I've heard music from composers I haven't heard before, it was Evil Dead from Roque Banos & The Counselor from Daniel Pemberton. Two scores I loved... so to Pedro Bromfman I say this... "Impress Me!"

Has anyone here heard any of this composer's music ? Maybe it will be good. I am a fan of the Robocop character, so I am curious to see how the movie turns out. I am not holding my breath that it will be as good as the original, but I will not form an opinion until I see it.

CD COMING SOON FROM SONY !! -- (nice front cover, btw)

More details here: http://filmmusicreporter.com/2013/12/31/robocop-soundtrack-details/

I'm slightly excited, because of my love for the character of RoboCop, and judging by the music of Elite Squad I think Bromfman could do a serviceable score.

However, I believe I'll be disappointed by this new RoboCop score, as I was very disappointed indeed with the new Dredd. Hope Bromfman doesn't go that way.

Poledouris (and Silvestri too, speaking of Dredd) is one of my idols... and absolutely unmatchable!

Look at the 1 star review for Bromfman's "Elite Squad" score CD at Amazon. Hilarious.

"a CD full of parts of songs, as yo hear the sounds in the movie thats it, mini-songs of 1 or 2 minutes (same time as the escenes) a couple of songs and thats it, waste of money"

Another unnecessary remake. nice for Micheal Keaton to get some work though.
Yes, the robosuit looks like something that 10 year old kids craft out of parts in the basement - really cheap.

The suit looks decent enough when it has the classic silver colors, But when they paint it black...sigh.

The original version of the suit still looks great. An 80's design that hasn't really dated much at all.

I know this is a reboot and Bromfman will probably come up with something that fits this version, which is fine, but I hope he quotes Poledouris' theme once as a homage, when he's in the silver suit. Since according to the previews it's borrowing lines like "Dead or Alive. You're coming with me." and "Thank you for your cooperation".
