Looking in your soundtrack collections are there any that stick out that you regret buying? I have one that was pure impulse and then listened to it once and regret wasting money on it. That would be Jerry Goldsmith's Tora Tora Tora. I bought it because I loved the movie, I was all into Jerry Goldsmith at that time but in my opinion the music just didnt excite me. I wish I could just trade it off for something else.

Wow, really? Pre-Flight Countdown did nothing for you? I'm listening to it RIGHT NOW and it's still totally badass.

Species II would be my immediate answer. What the hell happened there??

mine was Night Wing, when Varese released it I was very happy, when I got it, I was really disappointed & was lucky to trade it off.

Another was High Plains Drifter, I was so used to the film version, rather than the full score, that I also traded off.

Appreciate the work these label go to, sometimes the music just sounds better with the actual film than a stand alone listen.

regards

I knew I would probably get heat about Tora Tora Tora but It just didn't fill my expectations. Another big reason this was chosen was my collection is still under 100 soundtracks and I have a lot of Jerry Goldsmith but this was not my favorite from him. That would be Rudy and of course Star Trek.

VIBES. I guess you can say I was given some bad vibes by the high used copy asking price.

VIBES. I guess you can say I was given some bad vibes by the regular asking price back in the day. Made a bundle when I unloaded it though. So, good Vibes. smile

Whenever LaLaLand is selling stuff for $2.99 a pop, I usually grab a few, and almost always regret it (Undead? Beach Blanket Bingo? What was I thinking?!).

This is one of the main reason I'm trying to reign in my soundtrack purchases. My impulse purchases usually happen when I see a score that is highly praised on the board and usually is about to go OOP. Often, I'll listen to the samples and not really hear anything that grabs me, but I'll order it anyway in the hope that the full score will be different than the samples or that I'll grow to love it. Hasn't worked all that often so I'm now going with the rule that if I don't like the samples, it's a pass.

Off the top of my head, here are some regrets:

-Caprica: The Series (McCreary)
-Scorpio, Gray Lady Down, Lawman (Fielding)
-The Goonies (Grusin)
-High Plains Drifter (Barton)
-Willard (Walker)

There's been many others over the years. But it just goes to show that all of our listening tastes are subjective. I can't believe anyone would regret Lili, Prince Valiant or Tora Tora Tora!

Yeah, wow, a lot of regrets you have would be gold for me. To the OP, give Tora! Tora! Tora! some time, particularly the back half of the score. Age a factor? I didn't get super into the early Goldsmith until a couple years into "breaking into" film music. I'm tellin' ya, "Pre-Flight Countdown" is where it's at, man. Skip to 1:45 if you haven't heard this, everyone else. I couldn't get the thing to start immediately at the right time.

Pushing Tin. A case of less being more, because this thankfully comes in at less than 30 minutes.

Honey I Shrunk the Kids and a couple of $5 dollar sale items where the sample tracks were the only good tracks on the entire score.

I have only two soundtracks on Impulse, "Alfie" by Sonny Rollins and "Sweet Love, Bitter" by Mal Waldron, and I don't regret either.

This is pretty much my thinking about Walker's WILLARD. Marvelous score.

Off the top of my head...Conti's BAD BOYS, and I might give this another listen. Could change my mind.

This is kind of why, skinflint that I am, I'm careful not to get everything that comes out. Still, some duds squeak through.

I like Pushing Tin. The score's better than the movie, and I bought mine for a dollar after endlessly trolling the Half.com dollar bin
