My #1 favorite score, what got me into music in the
first place. Perfect score, only missing a love theme
....not really a place for it though is there!
Bring on the film stems! :-/ Or wait just a few more years until technology can REALLY enhance those elements, if that's truly all that's left. I'm always amazed this score never gets more love. That movie, besides being a classic entertainment, really is a showcase for music.

sorry if Ibring up something hush hush, but what is the 21 track 50 minutes album I have seen?
It seems to be the real deal but monosounding. Have I come across a boot??

Well Max & Warrior Woman Virginia Hey do exchange a look, so I guess that's one spot.... 
Yes, David, that 'thing' is a no-no & a real mess anyway. The Varese is one of the worst produced things ever. 30mins minus the useless sound efx reprises, sequencing that is....questionable, poor sound. But its all we have & I still play it often.
Hell, I recorded onto cassette from the laserdisc years ago & THAT sounds better - surprisingly crisp, the film mix is really good.
My fear is someone will release this & botch it by missing all the very short cues that are among the best parts. Time will tell....

When anyone asks me what my all time favourite movie is, I have to reply "Mad Max 2". It's the film I've watched the most times; I never get tired of it. One of the reasons for this is that I love the score.
Echoing posts above, it's about moments, as much as whole chunks of music. My favourite piece comes when Max escapes discovery, thanks to the Feral Kid, and makes it back to the Gyro Copter. It mirrors the quality of Morricone's best music, I feel. I also like the short piece when Gyro wipes his mouth, after feeding from the final dregs of dog food.
There are many different pieces that I wish were available, outside of watching the movie.
I do have a bootleg but it sounds faulty.
I pray that it gets a release before I become old and senile :-)

I was called The Road Warrior in the USA, because Mad Max had barely gotten a release.

The original soundtrack is obnoxious.
I took the CD and cut up the tracks and put them in chronological order. I included the part of the sound effects track with the “Max Goes Around the Mountain” cue, which is one of my favorites. It works somewhat better this way (especially the finale), but it is missing too much music to really accurately capture the sweep of this score and it still sounds awful.
I love the score, though. Hopefully one day we'll see it in better shape.

I just watched the BluRay and realized that the title is no longer "The Road Warrior" but instead "Mad Max 2". I thought I'd never see the day. Plus there are snippets of footage and dialogue that was not in the American version that i haven't seen before (extended arrow removal, shot of Wez's dead boyfriend with the boomerang in his head and more lines of speech from the compound's leader).
I certainly would love to own an expanded version of the score. The original soundtrack is just an editing mess.
The original UK VHS release was even longer, but not by much and the additional dialogue wasn't very interesting. (I won't get this exactly correct, so bear with me). The scene with Pappagallo taking a straw poll on what to do about the tanker had some additional dialogue to his speech. In the currently available version, the old man says "How d'yer expect us to get et there? Drag eeet?"
Pappagallo replies "If we have to, yes! There's always a way. But first, defend the fuel."
It then cuts to the Old Woman saying "Words..." etc. The UK VHS had more to it. Pappagallo says "But first defend the fuel. I'll stay...alone if I have to. I'll leave them nothing, of that you can be sure".
Then, the Old Woman says "Words..."
Not that interesting, I know, but it's odd the way they cut the character's speech. It was a bit cheesy, but then the Old Woman calls him out on it anyway.
As for the TV version, look that up ;-)

Wow, I feel kinda vindicated that others feel the current album is so lackluster,
and I wasn't flamed out to the hell of being cut to pieces! ;-)
There was some of the quick additional gore on youtube awhile back, not sure
if its still there, at work, so I can't check now.
And as much as the album is a mess, I've still enjoyed it for a sampling of the score
over the years, and did grow to like it. An expansion set should hopefully include
a remastered version of it - not always a fan of that practice, but here....I'd welcome it.
Who else thinks that the master tapes were erased and reused story is a lotta whooey?
Maybe it's time to contact Roger Savage, see if he has anything, or any stories perhaps?

I'm one of probably many that has emailed Varese, in the past, asking about a potential expanded deluxe edition. The answer was that no tapes exist. If that's the case, it's a total tragedy. :-(

Of course we never know how much time or effort was spent looking for the tapes.
Remember, CONAN THE BARBARIAN may turn up someday too..... :-/ :-)

According to Starlog Magazine, Varese was saddled with the same material as the TER album, but made the best of it by re-sequencing the material and clustering the sound effects at the end. I own both albums - the Varese is definitely the smoother presentation. (But the sleeve design of the old TER LP blows Varese's away!)
