It may be just a coincidence but have you been aware how many good film music this actor has in is filmography ? I don t know how many soundtracks i have (with him starring in the movie) but i have a lot.

Its no my favorite actor (almost !) but i think that there are more cds i have with him than any other actors (even more than Clint Eastwood).

Any one knows if he was aware of good composers and sometimes he could suggest anyone ?

1-PLANET OF THE APES
2-THE HAWAIIANS
3-THE OMEGA MAN
4-THE TEN COMMANDMENTS
5-BEN HUR
6-EL CID
7-Khartoum
8-THE BIG CONTRY
9-THE WARLORD
10-AIRPORT 1975

etc............ And i have some that people don t like but i do:

1-EARTHQUAKE
2-SOYLENT GREEN
3-BENEATH THE PLANET OF THE APES

etc...........

Well, he hired John Scott to compose a wonderful score for "Anthony & Cleopatra," which he directed.

Certainly, he would have been aware of composers. Nobody is that big a force in the movie business without knowing good composers, cinematographers, production designers, etc.

I'm sure he was aware of them and may have recommended some for certain films.I remember that he wrote the liner notes to the original Project 3 "Planet Of The Apes" album and praised Jerry Goldsmith highly. But unless he was producing or directing the film himself,I don't think he was involved in the final decision.

He played in what I would call "historical " parts at a time when melodic masterpieces from the great ones were still being produced. We were lucky to have him and the music his films inspired. By the way, Charlton Heston will be on the 2014 Legends of Hollywood stamp come this April.

maybe he had a so big prestige as an actor that he inspired composers more than an actor like Keanu Reeves would have !

I am surprised you forgot that solid score from THE AWAKENING BY CLAUDE BOLLING with that beautiful main theme, this reminds me of years ago when I would take a actor or actress and see how good the music was in there films, Take a guy like CHRISTOPHER LEE you really got a good chunk of fine music. Of course in the 70's RCA,released lp's of music scores from stars like BOGART, DAVIS , CRAWFORD ETC

I don t remember having seen The AWAKINING but with Bolling as composer its certainly good music.
The other actor that i think has the most good scores is Clint Eastwood until he became director.

The comments about Mr. Heston as a bad actor are unnecessary. Why do some on this board always have to interject something negative into a positive discussion. I can't imagine anyone as Ben-Hur, Moses, or El Cid (and many more)other than Mr. Heston. So, enough with the negativity. Give the man his due.

Somewhat related but slightly off topic...

I thought of something similar a few days ago when looking at the filmography of Kevin Costner. Like all his films or not, he has been in some with fine scores from top composers. To name a few, 'The Untouchables', 'Field of Dreams', 'Dances With Wolves', 'Robin Hood', 'JFK', 'Wyatt Earp' amongst others.
